Studio monitors...?
wow, they finally released that subwoofer to go with the alp5's? woohoo. no need to save upo for the sp8s anymore. but my ears have so gotten used to the alp 5s thati got the hng of how to mix down with them........is it ok to use events for the top monitors and something like dynaudios for the sub or will that ruin things?

I've had the ALP5's for a relatively short time, so I dont think adding a sub anytime soon will hurt.
As far as combining Event satellites with other brands of subs, i dont see why that would be a problem. I'd just prefer that one event sub cause... well... I just want the sub made by Event for monitors made by Event. I'm obsessive like that.

i c where u r comin from..........ut there is a part of me that wants to hell out for dynaudios and go down to 28hz.....maybe thats overkill and maybe i should just invest on the event sub and spend more money on acoustic treatment.
you stilll arent used to the alp 5's yet? how close are you from the onitor?

unless you are mixing mixing (not to be confused with DJ mixing) i highly recommend getting something you like listening to. very revealing monitors can help you make your mixes sound good on everything but can also tend to sound like poo whilst working. its hard to test monitors especially in noisy stores but give it a shot.

With respect to subs,
1) they don't have to be fancy, just have sufficient power for the volume you want to work with.
2) Remember they are really only processing a monophonic low frequency signal, (<40Hz)
3) you only have to spend uS $150.00 to get sufficient power.
Be sure you cut your monitors at 40Hz if you use a sub, otherwise you may be doubling some of your low frequency and your mixes will be weaker than you think in the low end.

"Let you're body feel the sound! Let it cover you up and down!"

Yeah i guess its a matter of opinion. The S100 would suffice for me because, like you said, I wouldnt want to go for bass overkill. I just want the right amount.v00d00ppl wrote:i c where u r comin from..........ut there is a part of me that wants to hell out for dynaudios and go down to 28hz.....maybe thats overkill and maybe i should just invest on the event sub and spend more money on acoustic treatment.

As far as the alp 5s, the thing is I've changed my configuration so much in so little time, I havent given myself a chance to get settled into their sound.
At first I just had them sitting on my desk, very close to each other and much lower than ear level.
Then I bought some auralex mopads for them. Helped a little, but not greatly. Still too close to each other, still too low below my ears.
Now, since about 2 weeks ago I finally shelled out for some proper stands and I have them set up at ear level in an equilateral 1 meter triangle. I've read this seems to be the optimal configuration for monitors, but if anyone has any better ideas be sure to let me know.
Been pretty busy though, so I havent had much time to play around with my music and "absorb" the new monitor setup.
That would be my main concern. the ALP5s go down to 53 Hz, while the S100 goes up to 120 Hz. Not sure how that will affect my mixing.ChiDJ wrote: Be sure you cut your monitors at 40Hz if you use a sub, otherwise you may be doubling some of your low frequency and your mixes will be weaker than you think in the low end.
I'd like to think not too much though since the folks at event made that sub with those monitors in mind.

Dynaudio Acoustics
Save a bit more money and go for Dynaudio Acoustics BM6A or treat yourself with never having to worry about monitoring again with the BM15A.
I have worked extensively with Genelecs, Mackies, Events etc. and believe me not having to worry about my monitors is the best thing that happened to my studio since Live!
And don't forget Yamaha NS10 as secondary monitors, checking your mix between the two, a blessing!

Maybe they were faulty, maybe he was a dumbshit. There is a trim control on the back of them which goes from -6dB to +6dB, maybe he had that turned up ? I leave mine at 0dB and they're fine, no problems.Tone Deft wrote: Or maybe the dude who had him was a dumbshit, he is, but I saw the input gain adjustment turned all the way down.
Does anyone have any experience or has anyone heard anything good/ bad about the Alesis ProLinear 720 DSP monitors? These have built in DSP to model other reference monitors, compensate for room weirdness or listener preferences, etc. I work in a crappy untreated basement, so I thought I might be able to leverage this feature to good effect.
On the other hand the price is "too good to be true" so I'm a little hesitant.

i have the Alesis M1 MKII Active and they aren't bad at all.

Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music
