I'm Starting to have this 'End of Live v3 ' anxiety

Post by ::mic-minimal:: » Sat Jun 19, 2004 11:57 am

I think after Live 4 gets released that abelton will actualy be the creative genuises of two programs, I keep reading the new features and looking at the new supposed layout and I think L4 might just have a different feel than L3, and this last week my L4 anticipation has even gotten me more into Live 3 and I've learned a few new things. Its very cool when a software upgrade can actualy inspire you to learn more of the current version and come away with a few more improved skills. I think I might even just hold off from getting in the beta traffic until the actual release, course I'll be reading up on everyones experiences though.

I know exactly what you mean, but I also cant wait to get into the beta testing- the cool thing is all tthe live 3 features will still be there if you want to ignore the new stuff, but it'll run better (on macs) and when you want to stick in a synth/vsti or whatever it'll be dead easy and you wont need to rewire or mess about so you just stick it on a track record it as a audio clip as normal if you want and disable the vsti to save cpu and just get on with it as normal - so i dont feel it will be anything but a step forward, even thiough there is definitely something unique about L3

I´m not yet a Live user but I´ve been playing with the demos a lot, and I must say I´m worried about this upgrade. I´ve bought a 12" iBook about a month ago to use with Live and as far as I can see my screen relastate will be to small using Live 4.

Look at this screenshot:

There´s almost no room for the audio/midi clips... :( Imagine that on my 12" 1024 x 768 screen. I would really like an option to collapse and expand the "Audio from" and "Audio to" area to make that situation a bit better. God, I wish I had the money to by Live right now. That way I could choose if I wanted to upgrade to version 4.

I WANT LIVE NOW! <-sniff->

you know if you press the s and the e it hides the clip parameter and envelope windows if you want to just edit the clip (warp markers etc)?

in the studio I could see where you'd be tightening your belt but out and about with your ibook it shouldn't be too bad once you get used to it.

also keyboard shortcuts play a big role - apart from the browser which for some reason they didn't give a shortcut to, the rest is quite fluid once you get used to the keys

Interesting post just caught my eye....
I'm picking up my new mobile DAW from AAVIMT this week (Melb.Oz) and actually have decided to just get a copy of LIVE 3.0 installed on it.

I got Live 3 for (lets just say it was a bargain for Oz prices) I'm more than happy to keep and stick with Live 3.0.

I've been 100% hardware up until now (including my daw bar .wav editing apps ,granulab and coagula on the PC).

My only experiences with Live have been splicing my final mixes and rendered Sounforge files to disk and going to my mates place and using his version for doing finalised arrangements in Live and fleshing out arrangement ideas (which IMHO is faster than a H/W daw anyday of the week).

Once again he owns Reaktor and god knows what else (he runs a DVD in house production company) -luckily I have good friends.

I have after much debate settled on Live 3.0 ,Reason 2.5 ,Kinetic (because it's a cheap way to get PSYN),Adobe Audition and Audio Mulch .
(Plus a swag of commercial refills and soundfonts for NNXT)

Basically this forum has been great research .
That said I am sure V3.0 is what I want.
It's been a hard decision dumping my hardware but pretty necessary due to health issues.

I'll be back later this week fully registered for forum posting and ready to go.
I may update to 4.0 later on but In think I'd rather keep it simple at the moment.

Nice to see people still see Live 3.0 as having a special place in the way they've created music.

Looking forward to sharing my new tunes with you all in the not too distance future.

Cheers

Yep guest it's ME .... (FaX)
And my DAW will be ready for pick up this afternoon.
Really interested too see just how my twisted little mind will take to Live V3.0 AudioMulch & Reason combined.
I really really wanna see just how far I can push the limitations of a dead simple set-up.
Should be rockin' methinks.
I've already nutted out the CV/Audio spider splitters/mergers in the Reason demo and have discovered some interesting syncro-sonic lfo based rythmic structure tricks that are le bombe ;).
Oh yes baby you can do them polyrythms :D
The clip envelopes in Live really intrique me ,reminds me of step programming break point midi data in huge modulation sequences in older pieces of music except I'm now doing it with audio.
I don't know who you are guest "I can't fuckin' wait for those tunes"....
But lets just say neither can I.
This has sparked my creativity again and I feel like I'm starting all over for the first time.
Lets just say I'll be crankin' out something majorly awesome :D ......
