Its not officially supported yet..
wether its version 3, 4, 5 or 6...

Ableton has this to say
Alex wrote:Dear All,

The following are a few words concerning the Windows Vista
(32bit) compatibility of Live 6.0.5 & Live 6.0.3.
We have tested Live on only a few Vista systems so far so there may be other problems as well.

Therefore if you experience a bug or misbehavior on Windows Vista
which is different from the behavior on Windows XP, please let us know.

Current state of Live 6.0.5
-----------------------------

Live 6.0.5 wokrs on Windows Vista.
The only limitation is:

- The drawing of the status bar in the Splash screen does not work properly

Current state of Live 6.0.3
-----------------------------
In principle, the Live 6.0.3 works on
Windows Vista. But there are some limitations:

- Starting Live 6.0.3 will temporarily disable the AERO Glass

- The drawing of the status bar in the Splash screen does not work properly

- First time decoding an MP3 (or similar) file requires administrator rights

We are currently working to eliminate these limitations and hope to
address them within bug-fix updates as soon as possible.

Recommendation
--------------
Because of the known (and unknown) problems, our limited Vista experience,
and the current lack of Audio & MIDI drivers, we strongly recommend testing
Live and your setup before you completely switch to Windows Vista.

If you are currently using Live on Windows XP, we recommend waiting before
upgrading to Vista.

Support of native Vista features
--------------------------------
Windows Vista provides several new technologies that could be useful
for Live - for instance, a new audio I/O architecture. We are planning
to support such native Vista features within this year.

Kind Regards
/Alex

Hi,

As far as I know, only the latest Live 6 version of Live works on Vista right now. We added some fixes in the latest betas so some issues were corrected.

I'm not sure about Live 5.

Bug reporting

Post by frecklehead » Tue Apr 10, 2007 5:13 pm

According to this letter Alex would like for us to report any Vista bugs
"Therefore if you experience a bug or misbehavior on Windows Vista

How do we do this... I called US technical support and was shut down as soon as I mentioned Vista...

Three questions:
1) Do I need to call Overseas from Oklahoma City, OK US to report a bug?
2) Is there a VISTA BETA program? And how do I join?
3) Is there any hope out there at all for my investment in Live to work on Vista...

Hi,

1) you can do that via email. Send your bug reports to [email protected], mentionning Vista in the subject line. The technical support is not yet on the Vista support, as it is still under development, but the beta team is happy to receive reports.
2) There is no specific Vista beta program yet, but the current Live 6 beta runs under Vista, you can find it at the top of this forum section.
3) Of course we will fully support Vista, but I can't tell when we'll be ready.

Thanks for your reply

Thanks for getting back so quickly, I just sent you an email with my question as well, please ignore it. I will send the error to the email you listed.

I love your product, it worked like a charm as the M-Audio enhanced eddition... As soon as I pay for the full version it would not get passed the splash screen... Serious Program Error, Live will shut down. I am just feeling a bit like I lost a lot of money in the upgrade. I am sure it is a simple solution but I can't get anyone in any of your offices to even talk after I mention Vista.

I tried a few of the suggetions on the forums:

delete / rename the pref config

and rename / move the VST's

I just will have to wait...

Hi,

Generally, this error can be caused by the Preferences file, yes. And putting your plugins into a temporary folder is a good idea too, so if Live starts, you can put them back by small amount in the right folder, see which one causes the problem.

Also, make sure you use the latest available beta.

FYI

Just in case anyone else was having the same install problem that I was having...

Craziest thing ever... I set my laptop resolution from 1440 x 900 to 1680 x 1050... and it installed fine... No Serious Program Error any more. I know it doesn't make any sense... but it did fix the problem.

Outside of that Live is kickin inside Vista... Not a single issue.

Extra thanks to Amaury for stickin this one out with me... Go Ableton Team!

is there anything i could try to get my live 5 going? the only reason i upgraded to vista is because the upgrade assistant had no problem with it...so maybe there is substance to this.

Hi,

I doubt Live 5 would work fine on Vista. There are many specifics in Vista that we would not even know in the time of Live 5, and only the latest Live 6 sort of runs under Vista. But we do not support Vista yet.
