I've just picked up a new duo-core laptop with 'home basic vista'....I'm still using live 5 for now.
I have a home setup so i'm going to use the laptop has my 'on the road' preproduction tracks etc...so i'm keeping it simple.
I downloaded asio4all hoping it would do what it did on XP...
but it doesn't...
In preferences when i switch the audio engine to asio, the sound completely drops off-(though the levels are still there)...so it's only working in the MME/DirectX, which of course has huge latency issues.
I've been reading forums and searching for an answer for days...
1 person said that the Vista home basic is not the ideal vista OS and I should upgrade to vista home edition.
I've already forked over enough money for a new laptop that's not doing what it should...I don't wanna spend anymore unless i have to.

Why don't you just use the soundcard drivers that came with the laptop?

this has been brought 2 my attention a few times...
i really hate to expose my lack of understanding in these matters but hang tight 1 more time...
I'm using my m-audio keystation 88es through the plugins on live 5...so for instance if i'm laying down say a piano or bass track with the midi keyboard the latency or delay is bad enough that it's virtually impossibe for me to be accurate on fast moving notes...hence my reasoning for trying the asio4all drivers as I've done in the past with xp.
I have read the forum in at the asio4all website and have come across similar problems with "reason"...the only thing that seems to be working with any consistency is fruityloops.
I have decided not to invest in a audio interface until maudio comes out with compatible drivers for vista.
Again, i've also been told to upgrade to vista home edition from home basic (vista)...will this make any difference in the original laptop soundcard drivers(WaveRt)?
