Apple not shipping Leopard till OCT 2007

Your kidding, right?
The thing about Apple users is they should wait a version or two before they upgrade to avoid MINOR bugs. I guess it dosen't matter to "upgrade" on the first day for Windows users for an OS like Vista because it's going to be bug ridden from start to finish...

Anyone see the situation vacant column in the back of this months SOS from Apple, they want a Technical Writer for creating accurate and concise documentation for their professional audio production software Logic.Tarekith wrote:Nope, not yet.ejectorset wrote:have they actually annouced a new logic?
what are the features?
Mmmmmmm????
I follow BBL, and I thought a lot of people were jumping the gun on what that guy was saying. He just asked a question and people took it that he was being coy. I don't know, i've been seeing so many people who claim to know when Leopard or Logic 8 is going to be released, I'm not believing any of it until I see it on the apple website.anti-banausic wrote:Tarekith, go check out bigbluelounge. There was a post by someone, who apparently might be from Apple, that might hint that Logic 8 or whatever it will be named (the app whose name we shall not speak) is not reliant on Leopard, and therefore might come prior to Leopard.Tarekith wrote:Nope, not yet.ejectorset wrote:have they actually annouced a new logic?

I am sure that there are parts of Logic that will be optimized for Leopard (perhaps leopard contains improvements to CoreAudio, and the 64 bit architecture) but it would seem rather counter-intuitive to not allow Logic to run on Tiger. Perhaps tomorrow we will hear something from the NAB conference.
Best,

That said, I was really hoping Logic 8 was coming out sooner rather than later

10 Reasons Why Apple's Leopard Was Delayed
10. Jobs needed some extra time to pick out which black turtleneck he was going to wear to the release party.
9. Apple accidentally used "Microsoft speak" when they said it would be ready in "late June" which mean October in normal talk.
8. They are moving the date back in order to wait for a big tie in opportunity........Leopard will come with a copy of the new CD "The Universe of Sanjaya"
7. After settling with The Beatles on the Apple name, Def Leppard joined in the fray and have called for a change of name, $10 million, and a new arm for the drummer .
6. Microsoft paid them $3 billion to "quit stealing their thunder" for six months after the release of the iPhone.
5. Because it only cost .10 cents to put a coupon in each new mac that says "free upgrade to Leopard when it comes out".
4. It gives the ad makers a few extra months to film more "I'm a Mac" beatdowns of Microsoft.
3. Everyone in the Chinese software factory quit to earn more money gold farming in World of Warcraft.
2. Figured Barry Bonds should be topping Hank Aaron about this time and didn't want to take away from the moment.
1. Bankers called Jobs to let them know they don't have a vault big enough to handle all the cash they'll make by releasing both the iPhone AND Leopard at the same time.

The "it's cos of the iPhone" line wreaks of poor excuses for being good old fashioned late. I don't believe it.
10.5 will contain new features that are potentially very exciting for people who don't just use their computer to run Live or Logic - like resolution independence or a fixed Finder or a Spotlight which doesn't suck.anti-banausic wrote:I honestly don't know why people upgrade their OS every time a new one is released and on the day of, unless you are having serious problems that are addressed in the release.
Err... company fails to ship product on time, stock prices fall. What's so odd about that?eisnein wrote:plus it actually had an effect on the stock price yesterday too!

I was responding more to the fact that over on Apple's Logic forum, some people were having a lot of issues with the 10.4.9 release and different AU validation. I guess what I mean is the mentality that you have to update whenever a company puts a new revision of their software out. Often it just creates headaches for the people who do it early.noisetonepause wrote:10.5 will contain new features that are potentially very exciting for people who don't just use their computer to run Live or Logic - like resolution independence or a fixed Finder or a Spotlight which doesn't suck.anti-banausic wrote:I honestly don't know why people upgrade their OS every time a new one is released and on the day of, unless you are having serious problems that are addressed in the release.
S'all. I understand that Leopard is going to be cool, and the fact that it will be 64 is great as well.

Well, if your computer is connected to the internets and the forty billion script kiddies, it's best to stay up to date...anti-banausic wrote:I was responding more to the fact that over on Apple's Logic forum, some people were having a lot of issues with the 10.4.9 release and different AU validation. Actually, you are absolutely right! My mistake, but then one must ask, if Tiger is already 64-bit, why is Apple making such a big deal of Leopard being 64 bit?longjohns wrote:I thought osx was 64 bit already? what about g5's??![]()
????Apple Website wrote: Mac OS X Leopard ups the power of 64-bit computing delivered in Tiger. Build and run a new generation of 64-bit applications that address massive amounts of memory. Leopard takes 64-bit computing to the next level, while maintaining full performance and compatibility for your existing 32-bit applications and drivers.
Enhanced 64-bit Support
Leopard delivers 64-bit power in one, universal OS. Now Cocoa and Carbon application frameworks, as well as graphics, scripting, and the rest of the system are all 64-bit. Leopard delivers 64-bit power to both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs, so you don’t have to install separate applications for different machines. There’s only one version of Mac OS X, so you don’t need to maintain separate operating systems for different uses.
Bridge the Generation Gap
Now that the entire operating system is 64-bit, you can take full advantage of the Xeon chip in Mac Pro and Xserve. You get more processing power at up to 3.0GHz, without limiting your programs to command-line applications, servers, and computation engines. And in just one great package: Leopard.
