It looks like you have a spam problem, I'm not being funny but spammers really annoy me, and if it was my forum I would take whatever measures possible to safeguard this forum from spammers. I would even try to track down the person responsible and sue the ass of him. I know it's not a serious problem at the moment and you are trying your best, but please don't let the jerk get away with defacing this forum with crap, it is bad enough trying to wade through all the harmless joking type threads without being faced with the spam. This is one of the most posted on forums I visit and it's hard enough as it is trying to keep up with all the serious posts.

I won't be happy until I see the spammers head on a plate.

Isnt there usually an option on the forum signup to put a password in? u know, the messed up letters. I cant remember seeing it when i signed up, that would stop most of it as it automatic.

I have seen it on other PHPBB sites too. Or on another forum i use there is a password on it you just type in, so at least you have to visit the site

It seems to me that spam tends to only bother the people that are gullible enough to actually click on those threads or perhaps even the links that are housed within those threads.

I don't think you can actually sue someone for posting adds. I could be wrong about that, but the concept just sounds absurd to me.

well, spamming is actually "udderly" illegal, but the reality of the situation is that it can be hard to track down forum spammers.

So in other words: you CAN sue, and you would win... if you have the resources to track them down. So no, it's not absurd, it's more of a practical impossibility, really.

Yep. I don't think anyone's ever been sued for spamming a forum. It would cost so much to bring it to court and then you'd probably have to prove damages. What are the real damages? Oh yeah.... it pisses off dj donnyman. I guess he's going to pay for the court costs. Hell hath no fury like a donnyman scorned!
