Just got Massive, CRYCKIE!

man it kicks ass, but it is a CPU whore!
Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music

don't forget to keep the global mode on "eco". On many patches, you'll notice no difference from ultra mode. Some patches lose high end clarity. But if when you want to bounce, you can turn the mode to higher quality.

Also, it seems that 4 voices of polyphony is the magic number for cpu jumps. Cpu stays even between one and four notes held and then jumps for the next four etc. So massive isn't my go-to pad synth or sustained note type patch.

I like it for leads/basses, effects and such.

So keep the polyphony to 4 and under, and on eco mode, and it's very comparable to other synths out there.

And ya, it rocks.

4 voices? I use all 64 with 32 note unison. Sure it eats 80% and I have to set to eco when working with other parts, but damn don't waste such a synth with a puny 4 voices :-D

no, no, not 4 voices, 4 notes. Sorry, bad wording, edited that.

Oh ya, I use lots of voices and unison on it too. But I'm sayin' after all that, you don't want to be using it to hold an eight note pad chord, or going on a mad keys solo with long sustaining patch. You really really don't.

Using it mono/legato or at least under 4 simultaneous notes keeps the cpu in check, especially in eco mode.

I adore it, alot of the presets are simply beautiful through distortion units!

I must admit that the cpu hit is the main reason I don't have it.

I opted for the more cpu reasonable yet very exciting-to-me fm8

Yep, four's the magic number. Massive initializes voices in groups of four to take advantage of the parallel processing features in the SSE/Altivec instruction sets.
