MIDI Output unavailable

Post by ChilledRat » Mon Apr 16, 2007 5:22 pm

I'm using Live Lite E-mu Edition (v6.0.7) with my E-mu 1820m. Under Midi Sync I've set the Track option to "On" for the input and output ports of Midi 1 and 2, but only external Midi input is available. The Midi output selector shows "No Output" unless I add another midi track to the session, but then the track is the only destination selectable.

Is this a limitation of the Lite version, or does it sound like a bug? I couldn't find any info comparing the different versions of Live on the site or in the pdf manual, but the fact the ports show up in preferences leads me to believe it's a bug. Especially as I don't get prompted to "learn about upgrades" when I activate them

Info on my setup in case it's of use:

AMD 64 X2 3800+, 2GB memory, XP SP2
Abit A8V motherboard (on-board midi disabled)
E-mu 1820m (latest drivers)
SB Live! Value (just used for games really, but the midi out isn't shown for this card, or the soundfont synths either when I tried them).

Thanks for reading.

Hello,

that is right. Most Live lite editions don't feature MIDI output to hardware synth. The manufacturers that bundle Live choose a feature set to include in their edition. For instance, M-audio and Digidesign editions feature MIDI output.

 Okay that clears that up, thanks. Odd choice for E-mu to make, but I can't complain as it was free

Could I make a polite suggestion that the MIDI out ports are exculded from the list when they aren't supported. It would have saved me a lot of hair pulling  Either that or, at the very least, make available 'somewhere' a list of included and/or excluded features in Lite versions.

Again, thanks for the reply. At least I know I'm not mad :)
