i wonder if this is related.. when i bump up past an avg of 70% cpu, sound randomly drops out from different channels. super annoying. and is only happening when i go over that cpu amount..
this similar at all for you ?
specs: macbook pro, OS10.4.7, 2.2ghz, 2gig ram. Live 6.0.10

hmm, i'll have to check when I get home but if i remember correctly I kept to at around 50/60%.

would maybe loweing the percent result in the sound actually playing? because it seems like it could be another problem as when i want to merly preview the sound it says it plays it in the bottom left corner but there is no sound, with over half of the clips this happens.

Hi,

The test tone in the Preferences, audio tab, is meant for the purpose of testing how far you can push the CPU with the latency you use. In your case, it means that you should either change the buffer size of your soundcard, or not push the CPU higher than 70%.

go to the Preferences, turn on the test tone, and increase the CPU slider, until it drops out, crackles. Stop the test tone, try changing the buffer size for the sound card, try the test tone again etc..

Yes mate, exatly that. they "play" in the GUI, but alas no sound :), not even a bit.

thanks for helping me out here =)

edit: some of the integrated sounds_do_ play properly.

Hi,

Can you tell what is the nature of the ones playing, and the ones not playing? (audio clips, Simpler clips etc..). You can tell by loading them.

By the way, do they play if you load them to an empty track?

Hi,

Which computer do you use?
Which exact version of Live?

What do the alc clips contain? Are they audio clips or MIDI? (double click on them to find out.

-if they are audio, isn't the sample missing?
-if they are MIDI, is there an instrument on the track? If it is a Simpler or Impulse, aren't the samples missing?

Hi,

MIDI by itself does not produce sound. It needs an instrument to play.

Hi,

It is easier to use a Simpler preset, as it will respond to all notes. You should be able to get sound right?

What are these clips that contain a MIDI clip but no device? Are they from the Ableton Library, or did you download them somewhere else?

You should also update to 6.0.7.

hi Amaury, thanks for putting up with me for start heh :)

i've been playing with ableton live pretty much all day, being a noobie the only way i can describe my problem at the moment is; for example I have some beats going and a bass line and what not and I decide to go though some of the built in clips from the ableton library. I go down the list one by one, I'll eventually get to a group of clips that contain no sound, heres a quick screenshot i took for visual aid. This is random example of what I've been getting. I go down the list playing each clip while my music is playing, its great untill I get to he clips in the red square...they dont make a sound.

Here the pic http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y112/H ... tled-3.jpg

I'd say about 40/50% of the files are doing this.
