Plugin Hogging CPU Even Though Track is Muted

Post by earsmack » Tue Apr 17, 2007 2:13 pm

I've created a "special" project where I pull in a single AIF file on each track of all my final mixes. I then put an instance of Izotope Ozone on each track and master one at a time. This is a fast way to work for me since I can quickly switch between tracks and hear how all of the tracks sound together to make sure they sound like part of the same album.

The problem I'm seeing is that even though the tracks are muted, Ozone is still doing something and hogging CPU. It only stops if I explicitely bypass/deactivate the plugin but this is another step and a pain when trying to A/B tracks, etc.

Does anyone know a work-around for this? Is this an Ozone problem or a Live issue?

Thanks!

It's not really a problem with either, it's just how it works. Muting is not the same as deactivating the plugins. Muting the track is like pulling the fader all the way down. All plugins will still be doing all of their processing, you just can't hear it. You need to bypass the plugs.

OK - that's cool then if that's the way it works. :-) I wish it worked differently but I suppose I can make the tracks wider and then have easier access to the popup menus to turn the device (Ozone in this case) off as needed.

Thanks for the validation...

Hey,

Map a keyboard key to ozone bypass and track activate, then repeat as needed. This lets you toggle thru them easily.

I have a set for 12 track recording where I have the record enables for each track mapped to a single key. I also have a key mapped to toggle all effects on or off (including Ozone on the master).

This way, I can record 12 tracks with minimal CPU overhead (effects off), then playback right away with all the effects/eqs that have been previously set up and are known to work.

Good idea - I think I'll do that. Thanks.
