Problems when hooking up more than one MIDI controller

Hello to everybody,

I am currently running Live 6.0.5, on a macbook intel, 2.0 ghz, with 1 gig ram.
I have the MiDI controller Behringuer BCF 2000 which i set to emulate the mackie control. All was fine till i got a second MiDI controller also from Behringer, the BCR 2000 rotary.
When I try o set the BCR 2000 rotary, as second controller, Ableton just takes that the BCR is the BCF controller, and both the controllers don't work anymore, because i cannot set the input neither the output of the BCR 2000.( ableton just gives me the options of bcf ports, which sucks)
I tried this on my other mac, and happens something similar, but if I connect first the BCR 2000 it will recognize it, but when i plug the BCF it will keep say is the same controller, the BCR2000... So no matter which conroller I connect as secondary midi controller, ableton will always assume I am using the First model of the controller i plug in.
does anyone have a clue why this is happening and how can I solve this? This is really is driving me crazy.
I also went to behringer to see if I can find any answer

Hello Anne,

If I recollect correctly, you have to give an 'Id' to each of the Behringer controllers. Look into the BCR or BCF manual: there should be a chapter about unique Ids to connect multiple devices to one computer.

sorry, no. it's a magic-thing to use 2 midi-controller, esp. when you use them both at a time.

if you work with 2 midi-controller, NEVER EVA change the usb-ports. for example: put the midi-controller 1 in the usb-port one, and the midi-controller 2 in the usb-port two.

if you un-link the midi-controllers and put for example the midi-controller 1 in the usb-port two, the midi-controller don't work anymore.

i work with a uc-33 evolution and a trigger-finger and i never change the usb-ports. if i do that, nothing will works again.........so stay for the rest of your live in the same usb-port.

don't ask me why......

Hello,

This should not be the case: Live registers the used MIDI channel and control or note number. So, even if you've made your assignements with a given controller, if you then use another controller auding the same MIDI port and CC or note numbers, it should work.

If you are using 'control surface', the driver name counts, and should not be dependant on which USB port it is plugged in.

hello amaury

yes i know it should work, but it doesn't.

take a midi-controller A and put it in the usb-port 1. take another midi-controller B and put it in the usb-port 2. open live and try to do some assignements with both midi-controllers. it should work. don't save the assigements.

now, unlink both midi-controllers from the usb-ports and restart the pc or laptop. now, link midi-controller A to the usb-port 2 and midi-controller B to the usb-port 1. open live and try to do some assignements with both midi-controllers. at least one midi-controller don't work and live will not recognize it.

don't know why. but anyway, i've solved the problem while i never change the usb-ports.
