need help with setting up studio

Post by lerky » Thu Apr 19, 2007 8:36 am

Really bored of my room set up in it's current way, I find I get headaches within an hour of working, and it doesnt really feel comfortable at all.
If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it.
Thanks

put your computer in the middle of one of those ikea desks, and put both the monitor stands on that one desk.

use the other desk as your keyboard/playing desk, and have that at a right angle...on your right side (if you are right handed... or left if you are left handed.)

BTW... i love repatching my studio, and pluggining it all in differently... i find it totally changes my creative workflow. it's a really useful thing to do every now and then.

good luck!

Plants. Big plants. Non-square non-plastic/metal non-electrical/electronic stuff. Posters. Pictures of friends and family. Acoustic room treatment. Non-white/magnolia walls.

"am" was right on - put the desks at an angle!

Prioritize your equipment - what do you (want to) use the most? Put that right smack in front of you.

The headache issue may be due to your monitor viewing angle. Believe it or not, you need to be looking up at a slight angle to in effect keep from straining your back and neck. The tension that results is often associated with headaches and various repetitive stress injuries. The chair you use also impacts your over all fatigue a great deal. NEVER use a stool because they offer zero support except to your ass. They literally strain everything else.

Now for reality. Even though I know all these issues to be true, I don't incorporate any of them into my current scheme of things. I literally have just gone through pretty much an identical associative discomfort quandary. (headaches & fatigue). I consulted someone locally who is a work place computer ergonomics expert. I am now in the process of planning a heist to cover the cost of a new ergonomically friendly studio environment.

a 20$ exercise ball (the big rubber ones 75cm) used as your primary "chair" so your sitiing and rolling/bouncing/streaching on it by laying over it, will save you$$$$on the ergonomic gear. it's worth a try.

The ref monitors are too high, unless your planning on standing up to mix.

Why dont you just settile your CPUs side by side in the center, monitors where you can hear them head level, and all yourkeyboards on stands, this way under them you can have your DJ rig and use this all live as well in the future?

The desks you got may of been appealing but i would scrap the idea, i understand of money is a issue though, hope iam not been cocky about it, i just think yoru screens and monitor positions are far more important then the mixer which can be side by side your dj rig under a keyboard stand.

i have a 2 tier keyboard stand which i dont use,
the idea is that the macbook i use only for djing, so it's perfect where it is right under the ecler mixer, the monitors above the macbook are not plugged in.
I spose the genelecs could come down an inch or 2.
Thanks for your thoughts though :D
