garageband/logic instrument help!

Post by Turbo Funky » Sun Apr 22, 2007 11:33 pm

I know similar questions have been asked before, but I previously used logic express 7 with garageband instrument packs for all my music. I'm sick of logic, don't like it anymore, and want to completely move over to Live now that I have it. The only problem I'm running into is not being able to use the plug-ins like guitar amp simulators etc., and the instruments like soft synths and sampled instruments from the apple packs in Live. Can someone please tell me anyway possible to use these in Live? I have already bought all that stuff and I don't want to just throw it out.

Those plugins are audio units, correct? .au?

You need to get into Live's preferences and scan for plugins, and if you didn't move the .au files over to Live's folder, then you may have to tell Live where they are.

the manual details how to install VSTs and AUs-- for you, its a matter of finding them again.

go to Macintosh hard drive/library/application support/garageband/instrument library/sampler/sampler files and you'll find all the source sound files for each instrument.

I've heard there's a way to load these into sampler in live using logic's exs sampler, but I don't have logic so haven't tried it. you can certainly to map them to an instrument in sampler as they all have the note as part of the file name. Again though, this is not something i've actually tried. no reason why it won't work though

Logic plug ins and synths can only be used in Logic. Live doesn't support Apple loops, so you're pretty much stuck using Logic if you want to use those things. Rewire.

Live supports apple loops, they're just aiff files.

I could not possibly care less about Apple Loops. I just want to be able to use all those audio and instrument plug ins. This is terrible. Rewiring sucks when Live is so much more powerful and acts as slave.

Sorry, I was thinking of the green ones that play Logic instruments. I should have been more clear.

If you activate Ableton's Sampler you can open EXS24 sample patches and save them in Sampler. I did it and it worked perfectly, when I had a test version of Live 6 plus Sampler. Within my personal Live license I have not bought Sampler though.

Purchasing Sampler is a compromise after buying Logic and all its Plug-ins, but it definately isn't Ableton's fault Logic sucks. Playing the EXS instruments in Live with sampler certainly makes a big difference, but I REALLY wish I could use all those great audio plugs. Things like the guitar amps would be phenomenal in Live for a show, where I could sample myself playing guitar on the fly and loop it into the mix.

Sorry, logic always makes me complain like this. I'm sorry Ableton. I love you baby.
