6.0.7 and Vista....any improvements

Post by vbalian » Mon Apr 23, 2007 2:12 pm

Hi All.........just wondering whether to upgrade my system to Vista now that 6.0.7 is out. Any experiences? I'm really holding off on Vista, but need a new system...the only option right now is a gaming PC which are still shipping with XP

don't do it...vista is not ready for most audio appz...if you're serious about your audio production, wait for a year or two...if you're just farting around, go for it, and report back.

i tried ableton with vista mines worked fine just check your drivers audio and/video card etc before you go the vista way
the thing holding vista back is all the graphics rubbish microsoft thought we all needed fancy menus 3d effects and the like just can understand that.
could be the undoing of vista.

I just read over the weekend that Dell was going to start offering XP again. Which is being read by the industry as a big vote of no confidence. Search Google news, dunno if Dell has implemented it yet.

It doesn't surprise me...most people would have to buy expensive hardware to run XP, and the whole model of Dell is to sell low cost PCs and make money on volume.

It's not only dell doing this.

I didn't see big news about this anywhere but I do some shopping for my work and I often buy laptop and desktop computers.

I always want to have machine that runs xp and that have drivers avaible on the website.

My suplier confirmed that some other big brands are bringing xp back cause there is too many customers complaint.

It's pretty good news to me, I really don't want to switch to vista now.

Dell is also about to sell some machine with linux ubutu included.

I've used 6.0.7 in demo mode on vista with the internal soundcard. Not extensive use, but it seems to work just fine so far.

There are Vista-specific drivers from MOTU that I will use with my Ultralite next: that is more the real test.

I have had some trouble using MOTU drivers with Live on Vista (Home Premium, 32bit). It generally works well until I resize the clip window. Then, my audio bits are crushed beyond redemption. If I shut down the app or the interface it will recover. (Put in a bug about this on the bugs/problems page). I'm using the latest 'made for vista' drivers from MOTU, and I know the interface works OK with my XP setup (in sig).
