How do YOU organize samples?

Post by Turbo Funky » Tue Apr 24, 2007 4:36 am

Basically, I have a huge library of mp3s and vinyls that need to be recorded into digital. I'm trying to build a library of more accessable references than raw songs, so the specific sections I want for sampling IN each song are more consolidated, to be mashup up and mixed together during the creative process. Basically getting some chores done before I can have fun. I know Live has multiple ways of managing this situation, but I'm trying to determine which is the best for me. How would YOU manage this sample undertaking?

Any suggestions for a first-timer? Thanks.

I have a library of like 18gb of mp4's, and another something like 12gb library of plain sounds like drumbeats, specific types of sounds etc. I tend to keep all samples together, I dont sample from commercial music. There is loads that I have yet to listen to. Thing is unless your amazingly prolific you arent going to use that many, and the more you amass before you start sorting them, the more impossible it will be to sort them

building and managing your library is a very personal thing. in the words of Nike; just do it.

i always thought the preset library when you install Live for the first time was pretty well thought out. the heirarchy makes perfect sense to me Clips, Presets, Samples, and Sets. and you get four folder choices. i make at least one of em my itunes library. and the rest for my clips and samples.
