transfering files over to a new laptop...?

Post by settle » Tue Apr 24, 2007 6:12 am

i had to buy a new puter. long story.
so i was in the middle of a really good project and i had all my projects saved as projects, but some used vsts and stuff...welll i guess i was wondering if there is a way that i can transfer my "racks" from my old hard drive over to my new puter.
i bought an inclosure and replaced the new ableton folder with my old one, but my racks are gone....shit. i just want to start where i was last night when the power connector on the back of my old laptop broke...shit.
any tips on how to transfer between computers? i have all the same vsts.
damn.
shit
thanx

take hard drive disk out of old computer, open new computer, plug in old hard drive into new hard drive connector in new computer. Boot computer up. hey presto, same files.

Seriously you broke the power lead and they convinced you to get another computer? Have you not thought about just getting the socket replaced or repaired, even picking up a spares or repair version of your laptop and just swapping the parts in yourself, has got to be cheaper than flatout buying a new computer?

no one talked me into anything. i just felt i needed to upgrade. but yeh, i plan on getting the old one fixed. it only had a 40gig drive, and thyis one has a 160...dualcore, 2 gig ram, 4meg bus.
ill use the other one for other things. may even run the two with a mixer in the middle. who knows.
that puter was loosin it. it needs an overhall.
