Best headphones for home studio?

Glad to hear it! That was the one thing I was worried about with these......on the senn's, the cords went out a few times.....but replacable.....

They dropped the price (used to be about 200usd) and are truly comfy.

There is another bonus to the senn line......the cables/pads are replacable. Probably at that price point you won't care so much, but it's nice just in case.

There is one gripe about the 280/580/650's.....that double ended cable is a PAIN! It's like putting on a bolo.........whereas the beyers I mentioned are "left sided" which is much easier to deal with IMHO.

the 280 are single sided and the 580/650 are double sided cables.
also one of the major aspects for a tracking headphones [the ONLY way you should use a pair of cans in the studio] is the attenuation and there the 280s are amongst the best, especially as already mentioned for the pricetag, i agree on the quality of the akg 240s, but the 271s having again a better attenuation [not shure if i spelled that right?] for tracking. just to keep in mind.

Ok, you are correct and I will correct.......but this I what I need to know......

Did senn change the design? The reason I ask is I bought what was supposed to be "hd 280" at some time and the cable was EXACTLY what was used for 580/650.

I'm really confused....and sorry, I do not want to mislead anyone.......

I use standard IPod ear buds.....call me crazy, but they seem to give me the most representative sound. I'm on my 3rd pair...they blow out easily when not converting to AAC format

I find it funny how when the same question was asked 3/4 months ago, at least 60% of the answers said Sennhieser HD 25's.

I am the second person to say it this time on page 3, just goes to show that these forums dont give you an accurate answer.

Sennheiser HD25's. They're the best.

even good for just killing outside noises. like aircraft noises, even if your not listening to music.

sounds strange, i bought mine about 6 month after it came out [the hd 280] and as far as i recall they always had a single sided 'telephone cord' when i tried them in a shop before i bought them, so i am not aware of a design change, but maybee?

i also can't imagine that they have different design models for different markets e.g. us vs. europe, but then again i don't know 100%.

sorry to say, but this shows clearly that we deal with probably 70% - 80% DJs on this forum and the 25s are very good for spinning [even i think that the new akg 181s are the first cans to top the 25s in years] because the 25s have brutal highs and are fucking LOUD, and usually loud under DJs / electronic music freaks is considered to be good [no offense at this point, just a matter of fact]. also the 'use' is important, yes the 25s are great, sturdy, loud and light... but it was asked for home studio use... ok the questioner did not specified, but as mentioned a pair of cans in a studio enviroment should [ehhmmm... DO!] only have one purpose and that is tracking, for that the most important thing is attenuation, to not have spill in your mics, in that regard the akg 271s, dt 770s and for the price hd 280s are the winner, followed by sound and wear, sweat [ask drummers, guitarists, singers] comfort for long recording sessions.

yeah i agree the hd 25s are no good for production. I own the dt 770s and hd 25's and the dt 770s shit all over them. the difference is astounding in the clarity throughout the entire range.

but the 770s use a bit of power. running them out of the mic socket in your soundcard should be ok. but not on an ipod or some standard laptop headphone sockets.

the dt 770's have great imaging, smooth base and are pretty true (headphones are never as true as a set of monitors. mixing a track entirely on any set of cans is not a good idea).

my only slight annoyance with the 770's is they have a little boost somewhere in the high frequency ranges which can be slightly fatigueing after a while. but i can still highly recomend them. and they are very comfy on your head too!

Good point... I don't know if it's a high frequency boost so much as a side effect of not having enough "bass power".... they do need more real power than most phones, but they're great when used with good gear. Don't work so well with my iPod...

if you look at a review of the frequency response curve (maybe on headphones .comor sweetwater.com) youll see a little boost up really high. its to make them spound more sparkly. doesn't affect my mixes drasticly, but i would prefer if it wasn't there. hurts my ears sometimes.

i read some guy made a basic mode with a few capacitors and resistors to correct this somewhere online.
