Post by flipvert » Tue Apr 24, 2007 9:52 am

Ok...

I midi control say the autofilter with my faderfox... i get the groove i like.
I then press Rec then play and start twiddling...
It records...
When I play it back the (back to arrangement) button lights up (iam in arrangement view)
and the automation lines are where i drew them with the controller but they are darker and the automation of the filter isn't moving...?

what am i doing wrong...

I just want to record it and have it stay there TO HEAR... lol please help driving me nuts..

I had the same problem once. I just turned on and off the midi inputs and outputs, but I'm not sure that's the reason the problem was fixed or because I de-activated midi yoke.

This drives me mad too.

The 'back to arrangement' comes on during playback if you change a parameter you have automated. So if you've recorded automation on the filter, playback and then move the filter even the slightest fraction, then 'back to arrangement' comes on, the automation goes dark red to indicate it's inactive. The playback doesn't have any automation 'cause your not moving the filter.

I thought I was going mad with volumes jumping around everywhere and it took me ages to figure out what was going. Say I fade something out midway through the track and then when i'm mixing later i decide to raise the volume a little, when it get's to the fade it just play's right through. Of course, because i've changed the setting's on the automated parameter Live tries to be helpfull by saving the original settings for me. Anyone know a way around this ?

Which record button are you hitting? The global record at the top? Or the record/arm button on the track itself? Sounds like you may not be hitting the global record. Otherwise based on what you're saying, things should be working like you'd expect.

Im hitting the global record at the top... tried arming it in track with record there tried everything I can think of, bar the MIDI in out preferences page, which I will try tonight....

Please someone must know... seems so backward?

Yep, sounded like you were doing it right, I was grasping at straws. What happens if you record your automation as you described above. Hit stop, power off the midi controller, hit the back to arrangement button if it's lit up and then play back? This test would confirm whether the midi controller is somehow sending messages when it shouldn't be.

this may occur if you have, say, a midi controller or midi keyboard hooked up. If knobs get dirty they may start to "glitch", in this case meaning randomly transmit midi values to Live. If this happens, and the glitching controller is assigned to anything it may disable the automation in arrangement view...

Best solution is to;
locate the control that's glitching - it's usually pitchbend/mod wheels (high res. controls)

Deactivate midi inputs in the midi preferences, like described above. Doesn't have to be midi yoke, could just be your regular midi controller input.
