What version are you guys using? I was on live 6.0.7 and it was driving me insane - i had 21 tracksin arrange with tonnes of plugins and routings and 6 returns. ANd stuttering a go go yes cpu was jumping between 30 and 70% and disk drive activity seemed fine. I opened the set in 6.0.5 and it ran soothly. Ableton what's up?!!! The updates are supposed to improve performance ; )

The System File Cache option can be manually set via an options.txt file. The content of the text file should be:

-UseFileSystemCacheForReading=Off

You have to place the text file here:
Win Live 5: C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Application Data\Ableton\Live [version]\Preferences\Options.txt

also if on windows laptop turn off the ACPI battery under device manager/batteries.
can someone from ableton can confirm this trick?

i have the same problem, but i don´t want to do something that may have some other drawbacks
