I'd just like to chime in and say that ALL guitar amp emulation software sucks the big fat hairy one. Sure...some of it's passable for specific kinds of work....but let's just be real and face the fact that they all still sound like crap to anyone who REALLY cares about guitar tone and it's painfully obvious when you A/B a real tube-amp running a nice collection of analog pedals against ANY emulations. Just sayin'..... 8O

sorry, but they don't all suck, and come very close to HW amps and mics in certain situations. i've got old fender amps (60s), old marshalls (60s), a holland, etc., and i record my guitars with a pelluso, other good mics, so i have comparison points. running my les paul into a millenia STT-1 (great pre, helps lots), then into guitar rig, i've gotten great results, particularly on cleanish sounds. i think the SW does not compare at all to amps for playing live. but for much recording, SW has made enormous strides in recent years.

1. They don't suck. I have GR2 and Amplitube 2. They don't suck.
2. I have tube amps. I have analog pedals that will make you cry (i.e. Lovetone). They are great, but for recording, the fact that I don't have to write down books full of setting that I had things at and where the microphone placement was in order to get the same sound should I want to overdub is priceless.
3. Bringing my guitar and a laptop bag with me when I travel = bringing my entire amp and effect collection? Priceless.
4. Eugene, Oregon sucks a big fat hairy one.

Kramer- Welcome to the future. I guess we should all be recording on reel-to-real with vintage mics as well. Shoot, screw MP3's, vinyl is SOOO much warmer too. Fact is, you can get awesome results with all kinds of gear as long as you know how to use it. You can A/B all you want but at the end of the day I'll have an awesome sounding track done with my POD.

It's a pointless argument. we can agree with kramer and then argue about what kinds of tubes sound good, or the virtues of driver size and the number of speakers per cabinet, heads vs. combos, string gauge, pick type, bridge systems, distortion pedals, compression settings and on and on and on...

You can get some wicked tones from Pods, some of the presets also sound more like Operator.

As long as we all agree that Macs suck we're cool.

Yes. It certainly does make things easier. Too bad it doesn't sound as good as the real thing.

Who the hell ever brings their entire amp or pedal collection just to travel?
Not sounding like the douche from a Visa comercial=priceless :D

No one brings their whole amp and pedal collection when they travel. THAT IS THE POINT. I can sit in my hotel room and play whatever the hell I want, and the fact that I also have headphones on means I can play whenever I want.

And it's MasterCard, fool.

And I sure will stay in New York, thanks for the recommendation.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll have to watch more TV so I can be as smart as you.
