I wish MH made a card with more than 2 outs. If they made a 6 output card I'd get it tomorrow. Though the Ensemble is tempting too...
BEST Sound Card??

I have a RME Fireface 800, and Apogee AD-8000 (can be expanded with a Firewire option) and love them both. I also own a Konnekt 24D and it's an amazing interface as well, especially for the price.
System 6000 is not really a sound card as you would still need a low latency card to get audio to and from your computer.
Nice converters though.

MOTU & RME are 2 of the very best soundcard producers. You really are splitting hairs asking a question like this one.quadrant6 wrote:I'm considering the Fireface 400 over the motu ultralite
Does the fireface have the same rep for being solid and robust when used together with a mac?
Which one suits your needs best?
Which is most ideal for you?
That is he one you should go for.
Personally i would go for the ultralite because it looks nicer. and because i have a motu laptop bag.

Well I was set on the ultralite but a local retailer suggested the rme as a better, more solid solution.
I'm convinced the difference in sound quality and mic preamps is probably small(?) but was most concerned about ease of use and robustness. I'll be using with an imac and possibly macbook later.
That's what I've heard but is it reliable? on a mac? I was dead set on getting it but was told the motu ultralite would be better, more rock solid sort of thing... for my mac.kenporter wrote:I also own a Konnekt 24D and it's an amazing interface as well, especially for the price.
I'm really interested to know!

Soundcards are totally over-rated.
Unless you are a performing or recording professional, or otherwise need special or multiple inputs or outputs, you are wasting your time and money.
The on board soundcard is suitable for most audio use. Mine sounds fucking great. People hear me and continually say "thats awesome!", "thats awesome!".
Dont get sucked in. Most people cant tell the difference. I've had a bunch of expensive soundcards and theyre all a pain in the ass.

This has got to be a classic in the making.......(also the one without the DSP stuff) .....quadrant6 wrote:That's what I've heard but is it reliable? on a mac? I'm thinking that for new buyer, these have to be a great choice.
I have a motu traveler.......very nice........extreamly reliable (and now even on a pc, which was not the case a while back)....but we are talking 850 bucks! 499/299 seems so much more attractive.....and the "jitter" is just about non-exsistant.....gotta help in the digital world

You picked up an Ultralite for $850, you were ripped my friend. Unless you were talking about the fireface 400? I am getting an Ultralite the minute i get a chance. It is really the best at the pricepoint. The fireface has one or two better things, but as with the Macbook pro, is it worth the additional cost? Me thinks not.eyeknow wrote:This has got to be a classic in the making.......(also the one without the DSP stuff) .....quadrant6 wrote:That's what I've heard but is it reliable? on a mac?
