Evolution UC-33e + Live. MIDI newb needs help.

Post by randy915 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 4:37 pm

Hi, I'm completely new to this whole MIDI thing but I recently purchased an Evolution UC-33e and a M-Audio Fast Track Pro. So I plugged both into the USB and after everything was detected I loaded up Live 6.

In PREFERENCES / MIDI SYNC, I chose UC33e for CONTROL SURFACE 1. Input and Output remain at NONE. Dump button is disabled. I closed the window and when I move the slider the green box next to MIDI lights up.

But when I'm in MIDI LEARN mode, I tried to click on master volume and moving the slider, nothing happens, faders same thing. This is where I start to get confused. How do you program this thing? The manual is confusing and I have this strange feeling I need to get a 5-pin MIDI cable to plug into the Fast Track Pro?

Someone in another forum said to press RECALL, 3 3 and that should do it but it doesnt work for me.

Please help me! Thanks

you need to assign the controls on the UC to the controls on teh screen.

hit CTRL -M
select the control on teh screen you wish to control. (eg fader)
then move the fader on the evolution.
hit ctrl-m to get out of midi-map.
done.

Alternatively you can load the preset in UC that someone else has created for Ableton.
this might be initially easier, but you will want to assign your own controls in time.

The Ableton template is rubbish. It only really assigns the faders the first 8 channels volume control and the master vol the 9th.

TBH you may as well start from scratch with your own. :E

"Both kinds...... drum and bass."

If you get into Enigma also, you can use all 33 of the possible presets and give yourself lots of handy options, particularly when using the buttons ... (i like to keep faders and knobs the same).
