wiimote!!! mapping midi notes to live...

hey.

decided to try rocking the wiimote as a controller for live. i'm using wiitomidi to translate the wiimote signals to midi notes but the problem is that wiimotes are dead jittery and its virtually impossible to get 1 constant midi note sent from it. as a result its a nightmare tryin to map it to control various functions in live.

is there any other ways of assigning midi notes/cc etc in live's map mode? as far as i can tell there isn't and i didn't think that creating my own instant mapping for the wiimote will do the trick either...

any ideas would be most appreciated!

Hello Rinko, Live does not know what source you use for the mapping, some Workarounds:
1.) Use a ceap Midi Keyboard for the mapping (like OXYGENE)
2.) Use a virtual Midi Cable (Software) and send the desired notes or controllers by another program (Cubase oo)

yo i wrote a app in max/msp/jitter that does exactly this... it also effects video in jitter

aww cool - i've seen another guy make stuff in max/msp to do this but it's done as a max object and i don't have max so i couldn't check it out - i take it yours is done as a max object too? siunds cool - maybe i'll be able to use em when the ableton/cyclin 74 collab stuff is released...

i'm messing with Osculator which is a nice app for hookin up the wiimote - clearly layed out and intuitive. can map to midi, keystrokes, stuff for kyma. there's also an update for wiitomidi which'll be well worth checking - only prob i've had with osculator is that live crashes when i put it in map mode with osc. as a selected midi input (it has its own virtual port) but in fairness, as was the original point of this post, its really hard to accurately map using the wiimote directly anyway.

as per hoitabuam's suggestion - i've found it easiest to map using a keyboard. i just use midipipe to scroll through the notes i want to output and do it that way.

i personally couldn't use the wiimote as my only controller but combined with my keyboard and fcb1010 i think it looks very promising.

it's great that people are willing to work so hard on cool experimental apps and then make them free and/or open source. gonna start learning c first and see where it gets me (probably to the hospital with RSI)...

Now if this could be converted to midi signals... though it would perhaps end up with DJs looking a little like Jean Michel Jarre the whole time...
