I have only been here one time, but I can say you guys know your shit
Well I have just learned how to record my music to ableton 6. And now I am ready to learn some other cool ticks, I am trying to use my asio firewire keyboard.. I am see the meter rising when i play a key but I can't hear anything

Apologies if this is a stupid question, buy have you actually added an instrument to the MIDI track? MIDI itself is silent, so you won't get any sound without an instrument.

You prolly own a midi controller instead of a synth.

What you see is the midi signal input

if you monitor the midi track

and load a synth like operarot or a sampler like simpler or sampler.

You will be able to play the synth patches with your midi keyboard.

set MONITOR on the track to IN
AUTO means the midi clip in the track plays to the VST
IN means external stuff gets routed to the VST
both can't be in control at once (this varies while recording, but that's a different trick)

The manual is good, the help box in the lower left corner is truly amazing while learning.
