how do you pay the bills?

Post by Johnisfaster » Wed May 02, 2007 11:15 pm

I know there have got to be some great altered ego's on this forum.

I myself.... I have some pretty funny jobs. I'm a janitor AND a garlic salesman :) (which comes with a giant hat that looks like a garlic clove! bonus!)

the janitor job is for the steady paycheck, and now I'm getting into my uncles business where I follow home and garden shows around and sell garlic seasoning and mustards and crap. totally funny I know but it's good money.

jobs I used to have: drain cleaner, cable man, CARNIE (not even joking), coffee barista. I even tried selling kirby vaccuums for one day, and I was a telemarketer for literally 15 minutes.

god I'm lame :)

Well...I'm happy to report that I am once again able to actually pay the bills with my job.

I'm now a project manager with a startup biopharmaceutical within the University of Nebraska. They initially hired me to help manage client projects and then soon found out that I'm good with IT/IS stuff too and have now asked me to become the IT/IS manager and build a department to support the entire facility...so more pay! YES! it's about time things started going my way ;)

I'm a sales rep for a young womens clothing line. East and West coasts are my territory, and I work with the national sales manager so I help with that. Lots of travel. Flexible hours. Paychex.

I once had a job on a night shift making plastic containers (shampoo / hair gel / etc) with some seriously blood thirsty robots. Everyone else on the line was an illegal immigrant and no-one could speak English.

but the worst was odd jobbing in a commercial kitchen , that was bad.

now I get paid to monitor these guys who are told they actually work for the CIA watching political and drug-related threads ... but in fact they tied to a chair , wired up to a huge computer simulation which is calculating the tastiest kind of hot dog.

it pays the rent.

I've done a lot of food jobs, baked bread, waited tables at 'family restaurants', half a dozen catering gigs of different flavors (prep to serving to garbage runs <ahh the smell of stale beer while drinking the last bits of wine bags on a hot summer day at the dump!!>), little league 'snack shack' dude flipping burgers, night security clerk in the college dorms, a few short software gigs, sold Cutco knives, painted houses, folded clothes for a Levi's photoshoot (random gig), made pizzas, worked at sandwich shops, temped in various offices <as the copy/colate bitch>, now I make/wrench on electronics sucking corporate cock.

Best and worst job was waiting tables. Tip your waiter, bitches, they work harder than you'll ever know. The Cutco gig sucked ass, it takes a special kind of asshole to do cold calling sales. Painting also sucked, hard work, half of it is just the shitty prep work, very detail oriented.
