Its in the manual I think (Page 282)
It tells you what the main instruments are called, then you have different versions like lite, ultra lite, etc. They should all be under Instrument racks.

I haven't upgraded to Live 6 yet. I was trying to get as much info as possible before deciding on the download or the box.

Is EIC worth the upgrade?

Post by konmanos » Thu May 03, 2007 2:51 am

All,

Whoever has upgraded to EIC version 6. Can they tell me if the strings section is worth the additional money? I am new to ableton and I must admit I am hooked to what the application can do. However I am having troubles getting some decent strings sounds from the midi instruments already included - I have played around to make some changes however I am not satisfied. The string sounds in some of the synth - keyboards - Juno 60 - is amazing - and this is what I am looking for. If anyone can help me thanks.. Can I get a demo version of the EIC?

the strings sound better than the synth sounds.

easy job, because they are samples.

they do not sound like real strings.

Personally, I wouldn't bother.
They take so long to load, and there are better instrument and faster
loading options around. (depending on other software you already have etc).
Just my 2 cents.

EIC Not essential at all

Post by ian hands » Thu May 03, 2007 11:20 am

Not essential at all

have never managed to find the mysterious Harpsichord (which is really what I bought it for)

Sampletank is much better (but won't) work with 6)

For all the weight of samples it still sounds very plastic

grumble grumble grumble

People keep saying that Sample Tank doesn't qwork with Live 6, but I use it every time and don't have any problems???? I'm runing Live on a PC, is this just an issue for Apple users? In any case Sample tank 2.5 will be released soon, hopefully this will address peoples problems.

As far as EIC is concerned, there are many good sounds in there, but I don't find myself using them because they use so much memory that my system starts to creak a bit under the strain, and can be slow and unreliable in a live situation. For instance after using the grand piano sample I have to exit and restart Live, otherwise the program starts to become unresponsive and glitchy.

I'm on an Intel iMac, no problems with Sampletank 2.2 XL and Live 6
