Hey!
I'm in Toronto right now but I will be moving to Hong Kong in June to live and work (hopefully in music). I had a post up for HK users a while ago but no reply...
Nice to meet you. What kind of music do you make?

Hey zorton,
for sure, will give you a shout when i'm in HK. I'm not sure how else to find fellow Ableton users there - i've created a "hong kong electronic music" group in Facebook but so far only 1 person joined, and s/he is not from HK.
let me know if you have questions about Live....or post here of course, the people here are very nice.

hello hello!
very happy to connect with more people in HK/Macau...from the bit of online research i've done in the past few weeks of live electronic music in hong kong (or electronic music there in general), the scene does seem a bit small. i'd love to be proven wrong. maybe i'm not looking hard enough either??
can't seem to open loudspkr.org - 404 not found message shows up?!?!

Good luck on your gig!
Just curious - how did you end up from New Zealand to Hong Kong? I never imagined that HK schools would be known for their fine arts programs....but I could be wrong.
Have a good weekend =)

thank you, gig went great, restored my faith in HK... had the place packed which is quite amazing for hong kong when playing quite experimental/alternative stuff.
How did I end up in HK? one of my undergraduate degrees involved chinese culture and film. I was always interested in coming to china for awhile, then one of my lecturers recommended a masters course following the same path here in HK but once I got to the school i ended up switching my MA for an MFA following my music/video and interactive art passions... so far the course seems ok, on the whole great faculty staff who are involved in very interesting things... but as with anything its what you make of it yourself.
but you are right in that HK needs a lot of work in fine arts areas... but thankfully there are quite a few people trying, I think it is slowly but surely improving...

glad the show went well, and i'm happy to hear that you got a good crowd.
i agree with you, regarding hk developing its culture & fine arts...i think there has always been people outside of the cultural/commercial radar that has been doing alternative stuff. it's just that nobody hears about it. at least in toronto, all i get exposed to in mainstream media are commerical cantopop releases (nothing wrong with that - it influenced me a lot growing up), and celebrity gossip in magazines.
i'm also interested in pursuing post-grad studies, but not sure if HK is the place to do it. so it's good to hear from someone studying there that there is good faculty. i started with a fanaticism in drumming (i've been performing in a professional japanese taiko ensemble here in toronto and played kit in a rock band), then once i got into university, i took computer music courses, which brought me back to writing my own music and sampling traditional japanese music, so now i'm thinking of ways to put all my interested together - percussion + traditional flute sounds + electronics. going to try to put something together once i get to hk.
