using EIC samples outside of Live

Post by xy.xx » Fri May 04, 2007 4:47 pm

i recently purchased a copy of Live 6 with the Essential Instrument Collection. i'm interested in using several of the EIC samples outside of Live (to be precise, in a SuperCollider patch that i'm working on to mangle acoustic samples) but have had no luck in doing so.

there are many collections of what look like raw AIFC files in HOME/Library/Application Support/Ableton/Library/Samples/Waveforms/Strings/xxx/. however, they will not open in applications other than Live. attempting to convert them to another format using sox tells me:

sox: Failed reading celegvibF-s1-a4-1-a4.aif: Can not support AIFC files that contain compressed data: able

does this indicate that these files are somehow compressed in a proprietary format and cannot be opened..?

I sure would like to find out the encoding as well.

Naturally one can resample them, but that's not the point,
we bought them.

hmm - i imagine they could be somehow heavily encoded like those reason sound banks.. yes, a bit frustrating.

has anyone else tried opening them in any other programs, or "viewing package contents"?

i dont have them but was thinking about getting ahold of them at some point.
