macbook issues

Post by kristofer » Sat May 05, 2007 4:40 am

Hi guys. I'm trying to run Ableton 5 on my macbook, but when I play audio the CPU usage for it is crazy, and I can't play two tracks at once without the tracks cutting out. I've followed instructions on latency and buffering, but it doesn't matter what I set the buffer to, it continues to skip around.
is this particular macbook not compatible with Ableton??

ps. it's driving me to the point of tears, so please respond if you have any ideas to help me.

it's not ableton or the computer, I'm on PC but Live runs fine on Macbooks
post your system specs.

it worked before and now it's not? any changes since then?

turn off the internet connection and anything you don't need and FWIW reboot
options-preferences-midi turn off any midi settings you don't need.
check for new drivers for your sound card.
disable any plug ins you're using, there's also a plug in buffer size, set it to 'same as audio'.

if you're using a crack, it seems some cracks blow up after a while. you can still open cracked sets you made with the demo and legit versions, Ableton welcomes new users, no crackdowns AFAIK.

you're right about being able to open cracked sets with legit versions of course but I never heard of a demo "blowing up" if by blowing up you're refering to his cpu issue. the only crack problem I ever heard about was the infamous "copy protection violation" that slaps you upside the head.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

I used to have same problem. MacBook Pro Core Duo 2GHz, 1GB RAM and Ableton 5 Lite. Really annoying, it makes using Ableton absolutely impossible. So I decided to buy full version of Live 6 :)

is your version of LIVE universal binary? i know that m ladyfriend accidentally downloaded gleetchlab 2.2 (which is universal) on her powerbook (which is not) and it made sound for a minute and then crashed.

might be a similar problem. maybe the "rosetta" thing doesn't work so hot with older versions of live?

just an idea.

Rosetta should only be used as a last resort as it's an emulator.

If you're not using version 5.2 or up then that's your problem as anything earlier is a PPC binary.

This macbook I'm using flies with Live 6. 6 is also better as it's multi-core aware (5.2 wasn't).
