I'm not on my mac at the moment, maybe someone chime in and walk you through changing your energy settings.

if no one chimes in I'll be on my mac soon to help you out.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

To set performance to highest, go to system preferences (click the little apple icon in the upper left side of your screen). Once in sys prefs click on "energy saver" (little lightbulb icon). oce in energy saver click on the options tab, you will see a dropdown menu labeled processor performance. Set this to "highest". Under the sleep tab uncheck "put hard disk to sleep when possible".

Turn off airport and bluetooh when doing your music. You can find both of these in the upper right hand corner of your screen. just click the little icon and a menu will appear that allows you to turn them on and off.

As stated already, repair permissions regularly. Once a week as a habbit and immediately after installing any new software. It only takes a minute. Repair permissions by going to: macintosh harddisk/applications/utilities/disk utility.

launch disk utility and select your hard drive by clicking on it. Click the "repair disk permissions button.

Your mac is not current, but it certainly is not obsolete. It's a solid, stable piece of hardware. Learn to owrk within its limitations and it should last you a good while.

speaking of which: where the hell does one find out (in a powerbook) how fast (RPMs) the hard drives are?
