Tannoy Reveal 6D or Tapco S8 ??

Post by JamieG » Mon May 07, 2007 3:33 pm

I'm looking to get a set of low cost bi-amplified nearfield monitors.

I have used Tannoy reveals in the past and I really like them.

I have been demo'ed a pair of Tapco S8, which also sound nice.

Has anyone got either of these monitors, or are able suggest anything better for less than £400 UK / $800 US??

The Tapco's will cost me £275 and have an 8" woofer. The Tannoy's will cost me £375 and have digital inputs.

I will mainly be mixing techno and electro on them, so I'm tempted to go for the Tapco's as they have a bigger woofer (and are cheaper), but I have a feeling that the Tannoy's will sound a little better and be a good all rounder??

What do you reckon??

Thanks, Jamie

I love my tannoy reveal actives, comparable to the 8D's they are wonderful. I have been mixing on them for years, and have never had a complaint.
Definitely need a sub though.

I guess the real match is between the Reveal 5a and Genelecs 8020.

Never heard the first one, though.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I'm now debating getting the Tapco SW-10 (which I can get VERY cheaply) with either; Tapco S5's, Tapco S8's or Tannoy Reveal 5A's.

Think I'll def need a sub to give my system better range and more flexibility. Still not sure which monitors to go for as satellite's?? Tannoy's are prob my best bet, but maybe the Tapco's would match better with the sub?? But would I need an 8" woofer on them or would I get away with a 5"

I'm just too indecisive!! HELP?!

still undecided mate!! lol .i thought i would need a sub before i bought my reveal 5a s but after about 30 seconds of using them in a smallish room there is more than enougth bass for what im doing!!! i guess it depends on what type of music you are making ,im doing breaks electronica /punk/funk type stuff and everything is booming along very nice indeed!!!! 8)
