First ~Big~ Gig Looming

Post by laurence » Wed May 09, 2007 10:01 am

Next month i have my first large gig!-a potential 1500 strong crowd to watch me play with live!

My equipment is as follows- Hp Dv2000 lappy (currently back at hp thanks to motherboard fry-out-thank-god-for-backups jobby)

-M-Audio Fasttrack Pro > My first problem, using a large soundsystem will the 24bit 96khz USB stand up it, or shall i invest in a firewire/more expensive USB comprimise/ midi controller/w built in interface?

-MIDI controller, Second Problem > I will be djing mainly and triggering a hell of a lot of samples. I dont have the transport to take my 49key keyboard to do this job so i have been looking at- MIDI dj mixers...

Vestax VCI-100. £300 seems a lot for some fancy glass jogwheels i cant use in live. But it is rather tasty...

BCD2000, cheap and apparently really rather good.

Mackie d.2 pro. Built in firewire is a bonus but the mixer looks rather bare for the price. However- New they go for £199 on ebay shops...

I would also want a triggerfinger eske product to complement one of these to trigger samples, but thats the easy part.

So, abletonites, what is your advice on-
Replacing/Not replacing my Fasttrack Pro

&

My shiney new Dj midi mixer, either from the list above or any other alternatives you may think of.

Thanks, Danke and Merci :D

here's $0.02 of IMO...

Doesn't matter how large the crowd is, or the size of the sound system: you want any show to go smoothly, because you want to play again. If your rig is reliable, and your latency is in line with what you need, then don't change anything if you are close to the date you are playing. If you have time to get used to a new interface and you know that it will improve your sound or capabilities, then that would be the time to change, and keep your current unit as a backup.

Thanks for the reply man, i do have around a month and a half untill i play, so i can learn the ins of outs of a new midi controller (considering dj midi conrollers dont have much to them)

What i would like...ney..love to know however, would a FW/better USB interface be a better option performance-wise. (sound quality is my main concern)

&

Which Dj specific midi controller i should go for- one with built in interface would be handy, but not nessicary, again, in terms of quality/useablity.
