I'm not sure that you can use Live for commercial purposes if it's the educational version. I have the educational version, it's the same as the retail version except it has 'educational use only' stamped on the manual and cost way less. (I qualified as an educational worker) As I don't make music for money, it doesn't concern me but you should check this out if you plan on selling your Live creations...
http://soundcloud.com/umbriel-rising http://www.myspace.com/leedsquietmandemos Live 7.0.18 SUITE, Cubase 5.5.2], Soundforge 9, Dell XPS M1530, 2.2 Ghz C2D, 4GB, Vista Ult SP2, legit plugins a plenty, Alesis IO14.
Not sure where you're located, but I got my educational version from www.Audiomidi.com a few years ago with a valid student ID. Then I upgraded to later versions, and the license is just as good as the regular pro version. If you're a student, JUMP ON IT! It's the same software, same license, for almost half the price. Gotto love the Abes.
i have bought lots of software from educational eBay shops. One company i usually buy my native instruments from charges me an academic price, but i get a regular serial number.
the live educational version should be the same. very few companies have restrictions on their academic versions, like maya for instance.
also the 'academic superstore' is a legit online vendor. but so are the eBay stores that do the same.

edu version
hi!
just bought the edu version of live 6 two weeks ago.
was also thrown off by the sticker ("educational use only"), so I called the abes in berlin to find out exactly. the nice girl on the phone told me that the use of the edu version is in no way restricted or limited to the full version. you can make money with it and everything. best part: it doesn´t run out! I´m in semester 10 and not a student for long anymore but no worries!!! so I have to qoute from the post above:
gotta love the abes!!!!
