Audio not working on Quicktime when Ableton is open

Post by M000761 » Mon May 14, 2007 2:57 am

I am using a newly purchased Lexicon Lambda external sound card on an LG Windwos XP Laptop. Within ableton 6 I have set the sound to use ASIO.

When ableton is shut the audio works fine for all applications (even quicktime). However, if I open ableton and start playing sound then return to the other application (e.g. quicktime or windows media player) and try to play sound on that I get an error message saying there is a problem with the sound device.

I am intending to return the soundcard to the shop to get them to check it unless someone can help if I am missing something.

Cheers in advance.

Hello,

As far as I know, a single sound device can't be accessed by many programs at once. If you have several outputs though, you can deactivate one pair in Live, and use it for your system sounds.

No need to take the sound card back - this is just how audio works! The first audio program open takes control of the sound driver, and programs subsequently opened before the first is closed won't be able to use the same audio driver.
