SETLIST with program change assignments

I wish there would be a "SETLIST" feature
with which i could define a list of .als sets and assign them to program change
numbers!

For people like me who are not standing in front of the laptop all the time
while the show AND with constant changing orders of songs,
this is one quick solution.

maybe even with a "preloading feature" that there would be no need to
stop audio between changes!?

i mean the program is still called "live", right?

I'm looking at Live for random cueing of audio tracks and midi (I'm a solo act performing with audio and midi automation) - basically there isn't a chance to even look at a laptop let alone fiddle with a keyboard. I need to cue scenes which have one audio/midi track remotely with a midi footswitch that sends basic patch changes.

So far when i set up midi i/o, turn on remote capability in midi preferences, go to scene view, hit the midi learn button, then do a patch change send from the footswithc, Live does not recognize patch changes from the footswitch.....it "sees" them NOT as patch changes but as a single pitch bend......wierd. Everything else (TC electronics gforce, lexicon rack unit, and digital peformer) all recognize the footswitch output as a patch change. Everything except Live.

Figured it out for Mac which is what I use.

I'm now cueing every song where I have backing tracks and midi for changing patches/lights etc able to be cued at random with a midi footswitch.

I just downloaded midipipe and followed the instructions on this thread.

well my demands are a bit different:

You need to cue SCENES (audio and midi) with Program Changes,
I need to trigger samples and play instruments via the midi keyboard.

Now i have about 30+ .als sets already mapped and volume tuned.
As my setlist on stage always changes and we only do about 10 to 15 songs per gig,
my need is to randomly load them into Live
without the need of using the laptop!

(I did adjustments and work with these sets since live 3)

I wouldn't even care when the sound stops as it does right now.

Now i know most of you laptop rockers just load their whole gig in,
but that is simply not working for me, because even if i merge the
sets then tune and map everything new, do the bpm changes
via triggering scenes inbetween i would go out on midi channels,
because that the only way to keep them seperated from within the midikeyboard mapping.

Also its a hell of a work to merge a new BIG set if you would need to.

I am waiting for this kind of feature since version 3.
For me it is so obvious, that i always thought it will be implemented in
the next version..

We do the exact same thing and tonight it was quite the issue for us (aside from other nightmares like the new sound guy argggh). Changing songs, even though only a few seconds, seems like an eternity. I need to go over to the laptop, fiddle with the touch pad, etc.

there has to be a quicker way...

i hope they will finaly implement something like that!
instead of a video feature which we only need in the studio....

i have found the million scenes/one huge file to not work very favorably either. yes, you always find workarounds when the tool you have doesn't do the job, but i don't understand the backlash to feature requests. jeez - just let them exist for what they are.

when i first create a song, i do it in single files of course. and over the creation process i use many different instruments, effects chains, mappings, and so on. i tried very hard to keep using the same template, but i find that to be too compromising.

when it comes time for a live performance, it's a royal pain in the ass to do the "workaround" process of stuffing that all into a single file. part of what makes my band what it is, is the immediate access to all the "raw" stuff - we don't use any freezes or audio clips or mixdowns of anything - each of us wants to be able to touch any little thing, and none of our songs are ever the same as a result. that's a GOOD thing. otherwise, we should just go back to being DJs.

we gave up on complex and time consuming workarounds, and now use a bit of audio filler (musical snippets, sound bite samples, etc) while we wait for the next project to load. i'd rather not do that, and i think it is perfectly reasonable to request ableton to address that somehow. if you don't, well good for you.

here's my really big bitch about live - try keeping good sync between two machines. and it gets worse and worse as ableton ages. THIS is what's got me looking for a different host now. so many things i absolutely LOVE about live, and just a few things i really HATE about live. so as long as i keep coughing up my $499 + $149 + $149 + $149 etc, you bet i will ask for new features.

after all it is called LIVE, not DJ Your Own Snippets With A Mouse On Stage.

to add to this, i think a "setlist' feature is an awesome way to approach thinking about it. maybe a small pane or button on the browser section, add your .als files to it, drag/drop to adjust the order, mappable for triggering, etc. i'm just so tired of finding silly hokey workarounds for playing live with, ahem, Live.

and fix the g*dd*mn clock. that is so d*mn embarrassing. we have resorted to using the old HW sequencers/drum machines to act as the clock. it's better than Live being the master, but all three laptops drift, jitter or just plain lose sync in totally random and inconsistent ways. jeez - about to ditch Live and start using 20 year old hardware again! progress, my *ss.

Having a setlist in Live would make gigging much more pleasant, when there wouldn't be need constantly go to Live and double click on files to switch songs. Instead, they could be in a list that could be accessed with midi (next/previous song)

I knew it wasn't just me! My band situation requires quick access to all our songs at all times, so I'm gradually building our 60-song setlist into a single arrangement. At some point I assume Live (or my PC) will give up the ghost.

me too! i dont see any features in v8 interesting enough for me to upgrade right now!

As just raised that as open-source I will not sell it in the first draft. It was just a solution I needed for my own band.
At the moment I just wanna make this as reliable and useful as possible, so you all can help me with this by sharing your experience.

Maybe Ableton will see the need for that kind of feature in the future. If this happens... Please Ableton ask me, because I have lots of ideas how to integrate that use case into Live.
