In session mode, it DOESN'T work. Make a 5/4 clips in a 4/4 project. Now just try to do something basic like: trigger the 4/4 clip, then tigger the 5/4 clip. Clips don't change one of the 1 of clips meter.
There is no work around.
Actually, there is a work around. I use LogicPro and run Live as a rewire slave.

what do you mean by this? i can trigger em fine using 1/4 quantisation. do you mean they don't work with 1 bar quantisation?

Yes. It should work for 'correctly' for bars.
When I play drums, I want to trigger the clip change early in the measure (because usually a fill is played on the last half of the measure).
Also, making the quanization to 1/8's (for a 7/8 to 4/4 changing) might become easy to miss (depending on the tempo).

two versions ago, this was the "only" real missing feature for certain musicians........or even some film scorers.
It NEEDS to be there!
ps........I'm kinda surprised they didn't do it in 6........seemed like such an obvious update considering the "evolution" of live........

good luck
then you should listen to 'glomerath' on my myspace page:

I would definitely use time signature changes, if they were implemented!

? Joke right? As if there is no such other music to listen to?
only about 1/3 of my music is for "dancing"
The rest is for painting, fucking, driving, drinking, chilling, excercising, planning a revolution,...etc..

Is it then possible to switch time sigs in arrange view?
I been thinking of doing a tune in 7/8 but leaving the intro and outro as 4/4 so its mixable.

I agree that this really should be a feature.
BUT...
If you can play and count in an odd time signature surely you can trigger clips without having to use the 1 bar quantization. Sometimes I don't even set the time signature properly but simply think in terms of a grid. Especially in the session view where you're not really having to visualize and rearrange things in even chunks.

Hopefully, we'll see time signature changes in 7.
Not everyone does mindless, repetitive 4/4 drivel only. Variety is the spice of life!

I would trade everything on this page (
http://www.ableton.com/pages/live_6/whats_new/home) except the multi-core support and 'deep freeze' for proper meter changes. I am not upgrading until proper meter changes are implemented. And I hope it happens before 7!

I agree. The 'west' has been conditioned to what music should be. This version is a small fraction of what the musical spectrum represents. Most of this 'music' could easily be classified as commercials masquerading as 'art'. Also, the rhythmic vocabulary of many musicians (especially, 'electronic' musicians) is very weak.
However, it's very possible to play in 4/4 and have a very creative rhythm/phrasing.

I'm repeating myself ... but I'll add to this topic too...
god.. we need it. what a ridiculous omission! I thought this would of been implemented many versions ago. It's the only reason I don't use live 100%. Sure there are workarounds but they are a pain in the ass. I love my time signature changes.

i dont even understand what 4/4 or 3/4 is
im guessing 4/4 would be every four bars there is a drum fill or every 3/4 there is a fill
to me it only has to do with druming and nothing else.. ever time some one mentions a song that has wierd timing i tap my feet and try to see if i can get a cymbal hit in every four bars and have it sound right.. and everytime i am able to.
so whats the point of these time structures?
some one give me a link for dummies
