Doing Mix Downs in ableton

Post by ishnock » Wed May 23, 2007 11:56 pm

Peace,

What devices do you use and how do you go about using them for the following sounds:

Vocals

Beats( kick, snare,hh, percussions,)

Bass

Melodies (synths, piano , vibes, etc)

Im attempting to do my own mix downs. I have done mix downs before, but it was for my radio show. I have never, completely ,mixed a song, and I just want to get an idea on what audio devices to use( compression, utility, etc) and how to level them properly for each sound (as well as how to level each track).

wow, this is a HUGE question with no quick answer...

I would go to ASK Video or some other music website and buy a video on how to produce music on your computer...

sorry, bro, but it's way too big to tackle on a single thread...you'll have to do some homework first, and then come back with specific questions.

The settings of all the plug ins you mention are COMPLETELY dependant on the audio running through them. So no one is going to be able to tell you how to set yours properly. Read this:

and this:

then this:

I think what I was asking people took it on as being huge, but I just wanted some basic points from a ABLETON point of view.

But it is cool. I appreciate the help.

Not to sound like an ass... But use a compressor on whatever needs it and EQs or whatever on whatever needs it. Play around it, go wild and screw the rules. And finally, read up alot!
