Making Basslines

Post by blueprint » Thu May 24, 2007 4:42 pm

Do you use Simpler or Impulse?

I'm trying to make a bassline that is appriopriate with the structure of the actual track.

Please help, if VSTs are required please name them.

Please post various methods if you are willing to share.

What style of music?

I use Operator a lot for basslines...easy to get a nice thick, clean bass sound...even better with a bit of Saturator or Dynamic Tube to add a touch of disortion.

Sometimes i use impulse for bass parts, still experimenting with this seemingly boundless software, so i suggest u do the same.

When using impulse you can drop a bass sample or tom on a cell select gate, increase the pitch velocity so you can get different ehh..pitches by altering ehh... velocity! a little overdrive if you want and i love using the effects ethios4 suggested.

Impulse is great for almost random results, just a different way to program sounds and i really like it for that... i wish i could copy/paste cells and all setting to another cell though MR ABLETON!!!

what do you mean? sound wise or how the bassline should flow with the track? generally the bassline will follow the beat - i.e. if beats are on the fours, bass should follow with maybe an accent/glide longer note on the off beats/hits do that for like 7 of the 8 bars, then on the 8th bar have the bassline mimic the synthline.

woohoo....

I use mainly refx plasticz and operator for basslines, sometimes NI absynth since version 4.

For me sidechaining is essential for making a good kick/bass match.

Thx tonedeft for pointing this tutorial, sonictransfer is a really interesting site.

For Impulse, I use the bass drum for the kick but as far as the bassline goes I've been using simpler..

MINIMOOG VSTi 1.6 (With 1.1 the oscillators seemed to detune themselves through the track so get 1.6) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For ELECTRO HOUSE Nothing touches it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
