new padkonrtol owner
I'm loving it already. one scene for firing clips, the next scene for playing melodies and so on. it's sitting right next to my kaoss pad (as a midi controller, not too thrilled with the xy on the padkontrol) and my cheap logictech game controller (through junxion)
how you using yours?

i like the x an y infact think it gives the PK an edge over say trigger finger akai although akai seem to be comin back strong on the controller front lately.
i love the fun u can have with the x an y over effects or for a really obvious exaple say a vsti filter cut off an reso. i mapped some parameters on my virus ti to the xy an gave me great chance to play some really epressive stuff. the hold button makes it even more useable still

milenium cx7000 17'', 2ghz core 2 duo, 2 gig ram, 100 7200 sata, 512 mb nvida, ableton 6.0.1, yamaha 01x, korg padkontrol, virus ti polar, genlec 8030a, couple of circuit bent pieces, electric an accustic guitar
The key for me is I'd rather just have decent pads vs. all the extra stuff.......
I will not do maudio anymore!
I will not do "every gobbly gook" feature cramed into a keyboard that doesn't work/won't last anymore (which, is kinda the first won't do)
Just something that I can use for drums........and the akai and korg were the two I was considering.

I felt that when first using the xy pad that it was cheap feeling, but after using it for a while, it doesn't bother me anymore. I don't know what I was comparing it to. The kaoss pad? My laptop pad? It's a useful tool and I am glad they included it, you don't have to use it if you don't want, but it makes some things a lot easier (flams).
However, my legitimate gripe with the padkontrol, and the reason I don't have it in my possession right now, is that two of the pads refused to send midi note off signals on occasion. You would hit a note and it would never end. Yikes! It is in for repair or replacement right now. Hopefully it works right when I get it back.

Yeah, it is a great little controller. I haven't really used the xy pad (except for going through the manual), but I was just looking for the pads. I have knobs and faders on other controllers.
I've set up a couple of scenes with basic scales and I'm using it to come up with quick basslines and such (got the idea from that You Tube video).
Having pads has made me regret not getting an MPC about 5 years ago!

yeah I don't like the feel of the xy pad in comparison to how the kaoss pad feels.eyeknow wrote:I'm very interested in this and happy for the endorsement.............
although you are saying you don't like the x/y?

the pads are so extremely sensative that pressing them even the slightest bit usually works so you can easily use them as buttons if you want, I mean you have to reallllllllly be soft with them if you want to get them to not responde which I can't imagine anyone would ever be so gentle.Surreal wrote:Can you press the pad to trigger a scene?
i know that sounds obvious but i mean do you have to strike it or can you just press like a button? and when you press, can you press anywhere on the pad?
i have a trigger finger...not so good for button presses. nice for playing the pads.

oh dude, I wasn't possitive I would enjoy programming beats with the pads but I've been curious for a long time and now that I have it I'll never go back to programming with the mouse. I'm learning to play beats pretty quickly and it's a blast. but don't forget that you can play keyboard parts with it too. just set up all the pads to be a C major scale or something and have at it. I didn't think that would be very intuitive way to play melodies but it's loads of fun, and if you don't want it in C major you don't have to reprogramming it just use a pitch n' scale plug in live and it's a new scale.EEkevin wrote:Just got mine, yet to even plug it in... but man, I am excited to be free from programming drum parts with my mouse.
Joy.

I have to say, for further endoursment: the 2 knobs on top of this thing are really great. they have the quickest easiest "throw" I've ever felt (if you know what I mean) I can twist them from 0 to 127 and back much faster than my bcr2000 knobs (which I sometimes feel are also too cramped together) the padkontrol knobs are totally not cramped and the fast throw feel of them is awesome. and if you need more knobs on it you can reassign the knobs cc's with the push of 2 buttons (without turning any knobs to select which cc's you want) just click and hold "assign" and then click one of the 8 button pads and the knob is instantly reassigned. I find that to be a big bonus.
