where to put all these .dll files for added instruments?

i just extracted a bunch of share/free ware vsts and instruments, but confused as heck where to put them. i'd like more instruments to show up in the Instrument Rack, but the files in that folder are not dlls...

you should put them into your vst folder,

usually c:/program files/steinburg/vst

but you can really put them anywhere you want just keep them all together and in preferences there's the option for custom vst folder, just set that to where ever you decide to put them.

I keep all mine on external hd so i can use them where ever i'm at, i.e.
studio, friends house ect. plus this keeps them safe incase i need to reformat so i dont lose anything.
