Stuff to do to the Amen break?

Post by danielpetry » Sun May 27, 2007 11:07 pm

I was just wondering if anyone has any tips/cool ideas of things that you can do with the Amen break in ableton... the kind of stuff that Venetian Snares or Sh*tmat do, really twist it up, with those kind of rising pitched snares and stuff... I am playing around with clip transposition and offset envelopes at the moment, as well as the clip repeat brace, sounds a bit of a mess though so if anyone has any hints of how to make it sound good they'd be welcome, generally I would like to know what the archetypal stuff to do to it is, but also if anyone has anything else that they do or know of, that would be good too

Cheers

Dan

cut it up into various lengths, drop the cuts in impulse and then drink some coffee.

Lots of good info here http://breakbeat.hattrixx.co.uk/ While it doesn't use Live, I'm sure you can use your smarts and translate.
Best tip I can give is practise.

I think the amen break would make a mighty fine lampshade.

if you are going to use it in a tune, chop it into its constituent parts and sequence it as individual hits.

It has all been done though. hence the lampshade.

to get a good idea what people like squarepusher, etc do with it, once you've chopped it up, look at what the stuff they did with it looks like, then look at your sample.

If you like it, use it. Chop it up, it's like a drum kit. People don't stop using certain guitars or drum kits just because they've been used many times before.

but people generally don't use the same 5 second guitar sample in every other song in one particular genre of music.
no prevailing genre of music:

How else would you know if a song's Drum 'n' Bass or not?
