Both versions make use of Machinate's 8-bar dub gate on the guitar. Thanks to him for that.
In a tribute to original producer Lee "Scratch" Perry ( - I seem to remember another Congos track he produced had some magnificent moo-ing cows all the way through) I enlisted a passing hump-backed whale which seems to be the only mammal to have its own built in delay
. No edits were required and no effects used on the whale. He brought his own. 
If you haven't heard about the Congos before then check out this 9 minute version of "fisherman" filmed on the verandah of a house high in the Jamaican hills. The Congos and friends are so laid back they're nearly horizontal. Ramshackle but beautiful. Don't miss the guy who plays an excellent little solo on the mortar and pestle (!)
