Playing back recorded sets?

Post by jay2k6ie » Tue May 29, 2007 12:29 am

Hi,

I am new to ableton and I have just purchased Ableton 6. I have found it great and I have just put together my first track using the samples and effects provided but I still have a lot to learn as I am finding out.

My problem is I don't know how to save and play the song I have arranged outside of ableton?

When I go file - save project - it just saves as a black ableton folder and I dont know how to change it. When I open the black ableton folder it has a bunch of sample folders and a link to the project but no mp3 file?

I definitly recorded successfully because when I open the project file it all comes up the way I left off in arrangement mode and I can play the song back there no problem..

I tried to render to a cd but it only plays back 30 seconds of the song?

Any help/info would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

he? what are you talking about? give us more information about what you are doing...

why do you want to change the project folder?
live renders your selection in the arrangement.

Sorry..im very new to ableton..only had it twenty four hours.
I recorded a track which I made in the live view (I pressed the record button and watched it being recorded in the arrangement view)

I then saved the project (file save project)

Now I want to listen to the track I made? How do I do that?

After saving the project I cant find the track?

Cheers

you have to render your song from the arrangement view, just select it and use the render function (ctr+shift+r) to export it as a wav/aiff.

best

Thanks.. that worked!

The song is five minutes long and its not that detailed its just a minimal techno song.. but its coming out as 50.4mb?

I would have thought it would be around 5mb.. Does that sound right to you? Is there something else I need to do to compress it down?

cheers

Thats normal cool..so I guess I need to find some software to convert from wav - mp3?

Yea first time! Really keen to practice and become good at it as I am fed up with house and techno music over the last two years and I think I could do better with a bit of time and patience.

Any general tips or advice for a beginner you may have would be great!

there are many wav -> mp3 programs available for free.
I usually use either CDex or Exact Audio Copy
