Live 6 + Battery 3 -- How do I create beats?
I just completed the Live 6 tutorial on how to create beats via an imported audio clip (i.e. chop it up and assign it to pads in Impulse) and I can't figure out how to use Battery 3 in the similar fashion. I was under the impression that I could use the same tool in Live but just draw on the sample libraries in Battery 3. Am I mistaken?
If anyone can't point me in the direction of where one would learn how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. I've searched the Ableton and Native Instruments forums and haven't found anything on this (which leads me to believe that it might be a painfully obvious thing!). Seriously though, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the forum. First and foremost, are you a legit user?
To answer your question, you can chop beats in Live and then drop them onto Live's Impulse drum sampler, but you can't just drop them onto Battery. The easiest way to do that is to slice up the beats, then consolidate them (CTRL+J). By doing so, each slice becomes its own file. Then browse to the project directory where the slices are created, and then build your drum kits inside Battery's interface.

Did you watch any of the tutorials that came with Battery?Pete Lacis wrote:I just completed the Live 6 tutorial on how to create beats via an imported audio clip (i.e. chop it up and assign it to pads in Impulse) and I can't figure out how to use Battery 3 in the similar fashion. Program beats with midi to trigger the battery cells. Or use apple/rex loops within Battery and trigger the slices.
The sounds that come with Battery 3 are much better than Live's to be honest, just use those.

he is so right!
Computer games don't effect kids... If Pacman affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music

You can directly import the sliced data (0r the whole loop) from appleloops/rex/etc... into Battery3.nebulae wrote:Hi and welcome to the forum. First and foremost, are you a legit user?

And if you have a regular audio loop, just make an appleloop out of it, and import it into Battery.
I'm not sure how complex or simple the question is. Are you trying to slice up beats and map them out in Battery, or are you just confused on how to use Battery within Ableton like every other drum machine?
I refuse to answer until I know what the real question is. And even then I'll probably let somebody else answer.
