the last one on ebay went for $947!
Kits should be announced at the end of the week, I can't wait.
btw I got the parts from sparkfun, the pads are totally different, more like cubes (which is kinda cool) I hope to make those parts into a color version with tri-color LEDs, not USB powered. The only tough part might be making it software compatible with the monochrome versions.

(I read on their homepage about the kits - sounds great! But where did you get the parts?)

Monome redesigned the logic board to be easier to solder by incorporating an FTDI (the USB chip) breakout board from www.sparkfun.com. They changed the microcontroller package to a LARGE part and all the other parts are dead simple to find. The pads are the only part I couldn't find but it sounds like they ordered a bunch more. On top of that they're pushing forward with a 16x16 version, so more pads is a must!
Rest assured, these things will ALWAYS be around to make, I figured out the hardware design, sparkfun has DIFFERENT pads and parts for the pads, but it's all very doable.
Look for an announcement the first week of June, maybe Friday.
I can't wait to start hacking on this with Max/MSP.
