i use the yamaha MFC10, love it. very well built, and you can add up to four additional expression pedals or buttons at very low cost, it sends multiple midi messages, etc. it's somewhat difficult to program, but mobius has one of my favorite midi control features -- you just set it to midi capture, press a button, it knows what it captured, you say what to assign it to (so you really don't have to figure anything out).

Cool... know anything about a Rolls MIDI controller by the way?

Also I had a look at mobius and it seems pretty confusing at 1st. Has anyone written some sort of quick start guide? How do I get it going?

Thanks!

Loop last 8 bars of recording?

Post by djhatchet » Tue Jul 10, 2007 9:15 am

I'm into the live recording/looping of guitar parts as well. I would like to record for an extended amount of time: 16, 24, 32 bars - whatever it takes to get the part right - then loop the very last 8 bars that were recorded. As you probably know, Live will start looping from the very beginning of the clip... any suggestions on how to do this? I'm trying to avoid fussing with the point and click method to do this.

you can use multiply in mobius to cut off part of a loop. in live, i'm not sure how you could get around mousing, setting new start point, loop length. there might be some way to do this more easily in sampler, but that may not help you much.

I used to use 'Live for twisted electronica but I'm gettin back into my guitar and wanna try out layering guitar loops live, just like a BOSS loop pedal would (but without the electrical hum and a shed load more brilliant ways of manipulating the audio!)

If someone could tell me what I need to do in ableton to achieve this and what kind of MIDI controller pedal I need to get, I'll be forever greatful!!

Thank you,

It's been invaluable in allowing me to control Live hosting Guitar Rig, Softsynths and a sound-on-sound looping plugin. Ironically, I find Live does not work as well for me as a guitar looper, because I can't overdub and it's very difficult to start "from scratch" without using a click track. But others have great success. It all depends on your approach to looping.
How do you use the FCB with guitar rig ?
