boxed upgrades

Post by Sintec » Sat Jun 02, 2007 1:22 pm

I've finally upgraded to Ableton 6 (haven't had the money until recently). My boxed upgrade was delivered on Friday; well it would have been but it's too large for my letterbox.

Just wondering why it's necessary to have such a large box for a manual and some DVDs/CDs. If it was smaller then there'd be no need to rearrange the delivery cause it'd just fit though my letterbox first time. Seems to me that the oversize box is not only an unecessary waste of materials but also means UPS will now make more attempts to deliver something whilst I'm not here which will fill my city with more van fumes.

Maybe I'm missing something and the box is crammed full of extra stuff but I would prefer to just receive a manual and the Discs in a sensible letterbox size package that I didn't have to arrange to collect or have redirected.

Ever notice that all boxed software is the same size?

I believe it is a marketing device to allow one to
see it from the shelves on dealers showcase.

yeah I'd noticed that. But I'm not buying from a dealer so I don't need to be able to see the box in a showcase in the shop.

I just want a box that contains the important docs/discs and fits through a standard letterbox.

Nevermind the fact that the Program DVD is completely useless - an outdated version which you'll probably never install. A waste of plastic.

Anyway, I hear you on principle. Probably couldn't be all that much smaller in the 'cover' size but could be about 1/2 as thick at least. That's actually not going to save all that much paper though since most of the surface area is on the front and back of the box.

This is why I have things delivered at work

yeah I would if I trusted the postal department in my office but they are completly useless so I don't like to risk it.
