50ms delay between cue and master

Post by queglay » Tue Jun 05, 2007 5:57 am

ive just noticed a problem when setting my cue channel to 3/4. my master is on 1/2.

there seems to be about a 50 ms delay between the cue and the master and i cant figure out what it is. im running a fireface 800 with the latest drivers.

ive tried enableing and disabling direct monitoring thinking this might be the cause but to no avail.

on another note, ive noticed that changing the "audio to" track routing can sometimes take quite a while for it to switch tracks. should that be happenning?

Do you have any plugins running on the master channel?

If so, what are they

ahh good thinking, of course! it was the waves l3 ultramaximiser. damn i love that thing though.

it sucks that it has such a long delay, but it even delays when its disabled by live which is weird.

i guess ill have to find another one. what do people tend to use in the way of limiters etc for live performance?

u could use the build in audio effect "saturator" enable the "soft clip" button and it acts as a limiter.

CHEERS!

TLS pocket limiter.

It's free. It does Brickwall limiting. It sounds pretty good.

.....and it's got practically no added processing latency.

PC only

Good, I figured it would be something like that on your master

L3 is an amazing studio tool (i prefer it for some things myself) but maybe overkill for the master on your stage setup anyway

Izotope 03 is also amazing yet also has that bad latency for live work

Original PSP Vintagewarmer is ideal for a lot of setups ... the Vintagewarmer 2 introduced the bad latency but the original is spot on for live performance in a lot of ways

Here's a guide I wrote up, that has VW settings and also uses the BBE Sonic Maximizer for complex mode compensation --- if you dont use complex mode on a majority of your clips (mainly DJ work) you wont need that unit:

Sure, that guide is generally aimed at DJ use (ie. full length mastered material) -- depending on the kind of stuff you're doing you might want to run things differently
