Still problems with drag and drop audio files when dj-ing

Post by buzby » Wed Jun 06, 2007 10:14 pm

hi

i just upgraded from 6.01 - 6.07

one of the problems i had in 6.01 was that when i was djing - i could not import mp3, wav or aiff without it stopping live - i would have to go into the preferences to change the output to my macs output and then switch back to the small UA-4fx output that im using for djing

(it doesnt matter though whether i was using my traveler or lexicon- it would still crash)

so - now with 6.07 - if i preview or analysis a track in the browser or drag and drop a file into live whilst it is playing another track - i get huge crackles and distortion and the set tempo slows down

anyone? thanks

Make sure you're using the latest version of Quicktime.

hi

thanks for reply

im using quicktime 7.1.6 which is the latest

to describe the problem more

it seems that if drag and drop a file which has been recently used in live then it will import it no problem - also short loops seem to be ok

it's when i go to drag and drop in a file that has nt been used for a while - the saved warp settings are still there on the file but live has to re-scan the file if you see what i mean

when it is dropped in the file is scanned - going from light grey colour to its regular dark black colour

im using an aggregated device set up and monitor the tracks for cueing through the mac output and then master out is through the UA-4FX

i have tried various ways of doing this including messing around with the mac audio/midi set up-

note that when the aggregated set up is disabled in live preferences and the audio output device in the preferences is set to the mac built in output - it imports no problem

this is no good however as it means no audio is going to the master out....

help!!!

You are aware that Live needs to decode the mp3 to a wav file before playing it?

You can control the size of the cache. I'd suggest increasing it, or even better, convert all your songs to .wav or .aiff

longjohns

you is da man - thanks

i knew that live decodes mp3 to wav but did nt realize it would have this affect - im sure it is nt right that mp3 should have this affect

i have the cache limit off and think i will go for converting to aiff

long job ahead it seems -

thanks a million - bz

There's a program called "Max" for OSX that will batch convert your files, though of course you will lose the warping info. If you have a lot of unwarped MP3's to convert, far faster than letting Live do it.

i started to do it with itunes

i have found the aiff importing isnt 100% safe though - i dragged and dropped a couple of aiff files last night and got the same distortion and tempo slowing problems

Hi!

I am having the same problem with an M-Audio Ozone, which I also use as an aggregated device. I run Live 6.0.10 on OSX 10.4.10.

Did you find some fix, I mean other than converting your files into wav or aiff?

thanks.

hi

i stopped using the aggregated device setup -

in the audio-midi set up on my mac - i set them to built in input and built in output

with the preferences in live i set to the input and output to the NI audio control (2 in and 4 out) - master out in live goes to 1/2 and cue out goes to 3/4

i have no problems with drag and dropping mp3 anymore - also i think there might have been some bug fix in live for this a while ago - also make sure you have the latest version of quicktime

hope this helps

i just read over my previous mail and at the time of the problem i was using edirol UA-4fx and before that the lexicon - both of these only have 1 output

the NI has 2 outputs and i think you need this so that you do not have to use the aggregated device - it was only after i started to use the NI audio kontrol that the problem stopped

Same issue

Post by Big Ern » Sun Oct 28, 2007 11:17 pm

I seem to be having the same problems with Ableton 6. When I had Live 5 I didn't notice any of these issues.

The crackling only happens when using my external soundcard (m-Audio 410), but I used that same card prior and never had problems. I have a gig in three days and curious if anyone else has found a solution.

I've updated quicktime, live, and am still having issues. Any ideas?

Hi!

I finally found a workaround for this problem. I'm now using JackOSX instead of an aggregated audio device to route the audio to the two different soundcards. I followed the instruction given in this thread : http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6409

It's a little bit more complicated to set up, but it works well for me..

Hope it helps!
