Akai MPD24

Anyone have experiance with this yet? I like it over the Trigger Finger because it has transport controls over the TF. I bet the pads are more sensitive.

Bought and sold. I really sold it because it just wasn't my style. It was my first trip into MPC-pad territory, thought I might like it more, but I just didn't. But that is subjective.

Maybe things have since changed, but the transport controls weren't working with Live when I had mine. Also the encoders on mine were very jumpy, sometimes they would just randomly start scrolling backwards. Someone on here said that is a hallmark sign of crappy encoders. Hopefully, they have fixed this problem now.

Also, it doesn't have native Ableton support. Not a huge problem, you just have to hack a config file together. And there are threads on here that can show you how to do that.

Good luck.

I have had three, finally got a completely working one ( no jumpy encoders ). Favorite controller right now, Faders are perfect, knobs and pads are greaalso...
There is a MPD thread in the tips and tricks forum that takes care of the automap issue and in the same thread someone has written a max patch to get the MMC transport functions to work. with two minutes of tweaking the patch you can set the transport buttons set for abletons MIDI Map. If you dont want a sturdy controller then stay away fronm this one.

I work at Guitar Center in NYC, and almost every MPD we sell comes back. For a while there was a bug in it and 1 knob didn't learn. We havn't received a new batch in months, I'm not sure if that's because Numark still dosn't have there stuff together or they are still working this out.

But i tell customers everyday just to get something else. The Korg is cool, trigga cool too. I use the Axiom, but that's me.

Good luck to you and don't get sucked into the Akai/MPC/MPD hype

Peace
Shaheed

Mine's fine, love it.
Used to have a padkontrol but pads were too sensitive for me and the MPD's pads are pretty much the same as the MPC's, which is what I was used to.

Definite. That is one thing I will certainly say for the MPD24. It's casing is very sturdy. It has a nice feel. Just wish it worked a little better, but, like I said, I'm sure they have or will work out most of the kinks.

AARHRHHHRHHHHHHRGH AHHHHH uhhhhhHHHMMM ARRRRGHHGHGHH!!!!! :x

that's pretty much my experience. akai can suck it. they ripped off roger linn back in the day (shame on them) and now they make shit products and dont provide usable drivers or firmware until waaaay after they get their chubby greedy little fingers on your money for the crap product.

i feel like a sucker for buying the mpd24. another product rushed into production by akai without proper due diligence on the drivers. and still no working editor for Mac and its a fukking year later.

NEVER AGAIN

I was preparing to buy one last weekend but was put off by the reports of early models being buggy.

Is there a sure way to determine if an MPD24 is a newer model at the time of purchase?

Like would the serial number reveal anyting?

Akai should have a class action lawsuit filed against them because of the crap MPD-XX pads that that sell and then don't support.

I even like Roland's mv-8000 over the MPC2500s...

As for Roger Linn...

I love the Trigger Finger i've got... more as a general purpose midi controller than just a drum pad thing.. Its taken me a while, but i've managed, with the help of the 'mpc killer' rack, and loads of custom arpeggiator/effects racks to get it so i can boot up Live and bash away like an mpc..

Yes you are so right!

NO important music by, major talents, that changed the course of music, has EVER been done on Akai hardware!! Never! Not with the rack mount samplers or the MPCs, not electronic dance, or hip hop or anything!!
